Looking to buy some prints for some ornate frames I have.

I'd like some dark. Maybe faminist undertones or slightly occult.

Any ideas please?

Christ. That made zero sense.

I'd like something dark, maybe with feminist or occult undertones. Witches etc.

Maybe look on eBay and Etsy for original pieces OP, I've bought a few (not in the style you're after) and they can be very reasonable...in an under £50 way as I'm aware some people on here would consider a Picasso "cheap " 🤣 Good luck!

Ah thankyou but I'm just looking for prints as I have several frames to fill and don't have the budget for originals unfortunately :(

Hi, there is a site called Picryl, where you can find downloadable copies of art that is in some galleries/ museums etc, some are free, and some are a small fee, it also gives you the sizes, so if you want a 8*10" I have used this loads for my home, I am in the US now, but I think if you downloaded the image and then uploaded it to say boots or Asda/ Tesco photo printing pages you can get them printed in store or from the booth-
The site is legit, I got the tip from believe it not tiktok!
I hope this link works

The execution of lady Jane grey by Delaroche always gets me in the feels. Not historically accurate but very atmospheric and emotional.

Truth Coming Out of Her Well to Shame Mankind went viral a few years ago. I love her; she looks ready to kick ass.

I fully read that as haunted paintings @Zzsz and settled in to read about them not for the first time on MN but I was going to be a bit surprised that you can buy them coz haunting seems to be subjective but you said haunting anyway enjoy lol

I was also hoping for haunted painting stories! But I’m enjoying the pictures posted. Agree about Lady Jane Grey. Never seen that Truth painting before - fabulous.

If you like quirky, some people have told me they find the "big eye" paintings by Margaret Keane quite creepy.

Bit of a feminist back story there too. Her ex-husband took credit for her paintings for years, then they went to court where she proved she was the artist by painting one. They made a film about it.

TheManWhoWasntThere · 05/09/2023 19:15

Also Modigliani paintings can look quite haunting. I used to have the 'Alice' painting on my wall.

Google 'Casper David Friedrich'

These are excellent, thankyou! Also love the website.

The Truth was one I had on my list already, I think I'll definitely get a print of her

I find this one so creepy and disturbing: Experiment on a bird in an air pump.

Fascinating backstory to it as well.

While it's not a painting, an image that has haunted me for years is a photo taken of a refugee girl, Sharbat Gula, caught up in the Soviet/ Afghanistan war in the 1980s. Her piercing stare demands that you answer her question, whatever that may be. It would hold itself well against the beautiful paintings PP have suggested.

I'm not quite sure how to post a picture but if you google 'Afghan girl photo' you should see it.

The art of Hieronymous Bosch might be good?
