So on 14th August I moved house, housing association housing.

When I signed my tenancy on 11th August I had to pay £117. 71 out of my own pocket as a weeks rent upfront.

I filled out my housing benefit forms and I'm entitled to £99.61 a week covered.

They've started this from the date I moved in, August 14th.

So have the housing association had 2 payments for that week?

I've paid £117.71 myself and HB has also given them £99.61 on my behalf for 14th to 21st Aug?

I'm now showing as £54 in debt.

If HB has paid as well as me shouldnt my £117 payment on 11th put me ahead with the £17ish I need to pay a week?

Ive been here 3 weeks and owe 54, which is 3 x the amount I owe weekly.

293 has been covered. Which is 3 x the HB amount

So the £117 I paid myself is not factored in here anywhere? Do they just take it as a bonus?

You owe £54.30. You've paid one week in advance in full and Housing Benefit has paid 3 weeks at £99.61. The rent is £470.84 for four weeks and the HA has received £416.54 in total. £54.30 is 3x the £18.10 per week shortfall between the Housing Benefit and the rent.

It's confusing because in accounting a credit is shown as a minus figure, and that's what your rent statement shows, but most people think of a credit as a plus.

Your £117.71 paid the first week's rent from 14/8 to 20/8. Nothing was paid 21/8-27/8 then the Housing Benefit was paid on 28/8 so a week later than the second week's rent became due to cover the second week and weeks three and four.
