Just hanging washing out and I saw a bit of what looks like sawdust on the corner
Of the railway sleepers we have in the garden.

What the fuck is doing this this? Any idea? Am in the uk so it can't be termites.

Woodworm?

somethinghastochangesoon · 05/09/2023 09:34

I've just seen a wasp in the sawdust! Wasps couldn't create that surely?

Can you take a photo of the wasp? Could be a woodwasp or carpenter bee.

Re: the above link, if you are in or near Surrey there is a problem with a particular wood boring insect which is notifiable to the council. I discovered this when I was researching a problem.

I lived in a house (rented) and the first year, noticed wood dust in one particular place, thought nothing of it and swept it up. It returned the following year and increased, swept it up again. Eventually realised it might be something that needed investigating as there was even more.

It might be a wasp, but then again it might be wood boring insects so be careful if you have any damp places or old wood in your house.

It will be wasps.

You might find this blog interesting:

That looks like the little fucker I saw rolling round in the sawdust.

Wasps. Who'd have thought.

Thank fuck it will be winter soon and I can try and possibly treat the wood once they have all died off.

Next question. Has anyone treated wood for wasp damage Grin
