Good luck! No tips except to smile and be kind.

Talk to the children a lot. Just say hi, chat, ask about their day etc. it takes away your own nerves being busy, and children are positive generally. Also having a rapport early on makes behaviour issues easier later. They are easier to talk to than adults.
Something like standing in a doorway saying ‘good afternoon’ brightly as they pass you makes your feel in control, and they recognise you as important to greet.
Praise good behaviour, ask if anyone wants to do little jobs for you. Redirect negative behaviours as much as possible, giving lots of attention for positive behaviour but minimal feedback for negative. Just calmly repeat instructions, never get into a back and forth over it.
Made sure you are familiar with the procedures for common issues, like how to quickly get first aid support or an extra adult if needed.

The first day on a new job is always special. It's normal to be nervous! Be yourself, and be kind and happy.

Good Luck!

Hi @Woodward23
My MIL was a dinner / playground assistant for years. She was really loved and was missed when she retired. Honestly don't be nervous, just be you and enjoy your first day xx

Be positive as much as possible. 'Great lining up Linda' rather than 'line up properly Susan'.

Make sure you know exactly what's what with first aid. At some schools they write it down if a feather lands on a child.

Of course it's good to be fun and the person in their day who they can behave in a more relaxed way with but at the same time you can't let them walk all over you.

Try to learn as many names as you can, it will make things easier in the long run.
