What chores do you do in the evening?

I would usually put the dishwasher on, tidy up the kitchen and wipe around the kitchen surfaces. We eat early so that’s done by 7pm ish. Quick tidy of the bathroom if it needs it and dirty clothes in the wash ready to go on in the morning. If it’s bin day, I put all the recycling out ready for the morning. Otherwise that’s it!

I get really bored in the evenings but I couldn’t bring myself to mop a floor or or tidy a cupboard or anything else at all.

I expect some people in big families still keep going in to the evening to get everything done but I don’t have packed lunches or school uniforms any more and it makes a big difference!

Just stood and two hours of ironing. Wish I didn't have that to do

GreyCarpet · 04/09/2023 21:49

I do very little housework in the evenings.

I do about an hour in the morning and get it all done then.

Loafbeginsat60 · 04/09/2023 22:02

Feed and walk dogs and feed other animals
Sometimes clean out chickens/goats
Cook dinner
Dishwasher / clean surfaces
Washing on / hang up / put away
Dd makes her own packed lunch

Anything else is done at the weekend

Sometimes we have stuff like sheep to move / tag / foot bath and this week evenings will be baling and storing hay.

Never a dull moment!

Depends how tired/sore/lazy/anxious/unwell I'm feeling and whether I have to do any (paid) work that evening too.

This evening I've done almost none, just a tiny bit of tidying up the kids toys from today but I got toddler to help me with that before he went to bed. Also filled the dishwasher with the dirty stuff from dinner. I had to do about an extra hour of work after I'd put the kids to bed first mind.

I used to do more when toddler was a baby tbf as it was harder to get stuff done in the daytime then. And also I wasn't in as bad health then.

coronafiona · 04/09/2023 22:05

Clean and tidy kitchen and put washing in to run overnight. That's it. I'm too tired to do anything else!

cocksstrideintheevening · 04/09/2023 22:05

Kitchen gets cleaned after dinner. Nothing else.

2 hours of ironing?!

beetlebrain · 04/09/2023 22:05

This evening I made rissoles

Mydustymonstera · 04/09/2023 22:08

Any and all cleaning that ever needs to happen in the house. Weekend daytimes are too busy!
shopping. Clothes. Any admin. When else would you do any of this!

TheHorneSection · 04/09/2023 22:09

Clean kitchen, put dishwasher on, make packed lunches, sometimes run the hoover or broom around downstairs. Generally make sure it looks how I want it to look in the morning. Sometimes I put all the washing away while the youngest child is in the shower. Oh, and get clothes and bags ready for the morning.

But other than that, the evening is not for housework!!

rhino12345 · 04/09/2023 22:13

Quite a lot! I do a 10 minute whip round in the morning - pick up the dirty clothes, maybe put a wash on, unload dishwasher etc.

Then evenings when everyone else has gone upstairs I usually clean the kitchen, hoover downstairs, mop the floors once a week (I hate it when I mop the floors during the day then someone walks on it 🤬😂) and empty the dryer.

Coqueta · 04/09/2023 22:23

Put the milk bottles out
Mopped the kitchen floor after dh hoovered
Dishwasher on
Ironed school clothes and made packed lunch

Literally no one needs to do two hours of ironing! 😁

youveturnedupwelldone · 04/09/2023 22:30

Wipe round the kitchen, put the dishwasher on, hang up a load of laundry I did earlier in the day, , straighten up the living/dining room. That's about average for a weekday for me.

cleanasawhistle · 04/09/2023 22:32

Wash and dry pots after tea, clean kitchen.
Bring washing in fold and put away.
Back outside to water garden.
Put washer on....so can get clothes on line first thing in morning.
Tidy and plump cushions on sofa.
Hoover and mop downstairs if it needs doing.

Cannot cope with getting up in the morning to a mess

TotalOverhaul · 04/09/2023 22:52

I just unload and reload the dishwasher, clean the kitchen surfaces and fold any laundry that has dried during the day. Nothing else. i'm knackered in the evening.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 04/09/2023 23:01

I do everything of an evening. The reason for this is my dh works 12 hr night shifts so its better for me. I dont work anymore at all so when he goes at 6pm I stick in my earphones and out comes the vac.on goes the washing and dryer,I mop and well everything else that needs doing! I like this system! During the day I do my own thing and he can sleep without being disturbed.

WeWereInParis · 04/09/2023 23:07

We put dishwasher on, wash up anything that didn't go in, wipe surfaces, dining table and high chair, give the floor under the high chair a wipe. Generally this is done by one of us while the other person is doing a bath for DDs.

We'll also give the living room a tidy, put away some toys etc. maybe fold laundry if there is any. We pack DD's bag for nursery the next day with a set of spare clothes if she's used the previous days. If necessary I make lunch for myself to take to the office the next day.

echt · 05/09/2023 06:01

Get the kitchen ready for the next day: wiped down counters, new tea-towels, cup with tea bag ready, tidy the living room, washing machine put on so clothing is ready for hanging out the next morning, dishwasher on if full, check shopping list for additions.

You can iron and go, this is what I do as I find that I have to iron clothes anyway if they've been in drawers.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 05/09/2023 06:58

A wash goes on first thing so it’s either put outside to dry or on the heated airer. The day before washing is put away and ironed quickly if required.
Tea made then washing up done with kitchen wiped down and floor swept and wiped if required.
Downstairs floors swept when kids are in bed.
Bathroom is tidied and has a quick wipe round.
Packed lunches sorted.
Everything organised for the following day.
Bins emptied as and when.
Kids bathed. Older ones shower - they are responsible for sorting their own things for school and after school activities apart from the youngest.
I will do a deep clean of kitchen or bathroom as and when the urge takes me. The same with polishing, floors windows and hoovering upstairs.
I don’t like to do much in the house at the weekend as we are usually busy.
It doesn’t take as long as all sounds. I’m sat down reading or watching a film/series at 9pm. I don’t go to bed till about midnight.

PinkRoses1245 · 05/09/2023 07:02

Just cook, load dishwasher and wipe kitchen counters. Rarely anything else. And why not make some evening plans if you get bored? We’re out most evenings doing exercise or hobbies.

dontgobaconmyheart · 05/09/2023 07:29

I don't tend to do much, a quick tidy up of the bedroom as I like it completely tidy with everything in it's place before I get into bed, i'd probably typically put away my washing if there's any fully dry.

DP however will wash up, do a quick wipe around of the kitchen tops and then a whip round with the vacuum and whack ot back on charge.

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 05/09/2023 07:31

Pretty much nothing except the kitchen and the dishes - oh, and putting the bins out if necessary.

Weepingwillows12 · 05/09/2023 07:36

I do the dishes, some laundry, crushing up the days recycling and putting it outside, a wipe down of the kitchen and a general quick tidy up. Sometimes I let the robot hoover out. Then packed lunches or getting school bags/ sport club kit ready which is more me supervising (nagging!!!). My DH cooks. We do a more thorough clean at the weekend but my time is limited so our house is often messy / bit dirty. Never seem to be on top of dusting.

frozendaisy · 05/09/2023 08:18

Nothing. Once H working day is finished so is mine. (7pm ish) I refuse to be a martyr to housework.
