Best high street place for glasses (spectacles) , varifocal lenses?

Broke my glasses at the weekend.
Temporary fix will hold for a while, but I need to get new ones. Then I'll try the optician to put my leaves into new frames (they do do this) so I have some spares.

I usually use an independent, local optician for specs and contact lenses, but rarely have change from £500 or more, even with £50 frames.

I am really not in the market for £500 glasses at the moment! The broken ones are less than a year old.

Where is cheapest on the high street to get glasses? Is it Asda ?

does it need to be High Street? I use GlassesDirect and have been happy with their service, albeit i have a basic prescription. however, i ordered a pair of varifocals from them for my mum last year, and she was delighted. I think they cost about £280, including various add ons, but she normally pays £500+

I've rather go to a shop than online. Even with my PD measurement, when I have tried online, they've never sat right.

I have varifocals and to be honest Specsavers or Asda are the cheapest I found on the high street. I have also used GlassesDirect who were cheaper still. They do offer a free trial but I totally understand the extra fitting faff with varifocals and the need for them to sit right. I think I'd go down the repair route if possible.

They cavy be repaired. That's not an option.

The optician can put the lenses into new frames, but this will take a few days, so I need another pair for then, and for a bit of resilience.

I have sunglasses - they are fine.

I like vision express. I felt completely ripped off by my local independent a few years ago, expensive varifocals that I never really got on with.

I went to vision express recently and got new varifocals and sunglasses for a much better price and the prescription is much better for me.

Asda are the cheapest as they don't charge extra for varifocal lenses.

We’ve always been very happy with specsavers but I think it depends on the branch.
