currently in turkey NEVER EVER AGAIN!

Lucyintheskywithadiamond · 05/09/2023 18:30

Bali, but I think that was mainly due to a lot of obnoxious and entitled Australians who treat the locals like their servants.

Littleladygeorge · 05/09/2023 18:33

Agree with Cornwall! My daughter was even born there but I certainly wouldn’t recommend visiting.

Am loving this thread! San Francisco and
Barcelona are my contributions though I usually spend my time in South London or Vietnam!

I went to Bali with my sister and parents for Christmas, 7 months after breaking all my bones (nearly all) in a car crash. The minibus that took us from the airport to the hotel was TERRIFYING, to everyone on board but especially to me with my slings and crutches and still-painful bones.

Bali itself was nice, weather perfect, but my sister and I fell out as we always did when we spent more than a day together, during a game of partner whist with our parents. (We were 28 and 30 years old at this point, not teenagers!!!)

We didn’t speak for the rest of the holiday and would probably be not speaking now if she hadn’t discovered she was pregnant a month later, and of course I was the first person she wanted to tell. We haven’t fallen out since, and that was 30 years ago…

But it did ruin the holiday for everyone.

Edited

Never been to Turkey, i'm in two minds about it - can I ask what you don't like about it?

BirdiePlantaganet · 05/09/2023 19:00

We had a great time at an AI hotel in Ocho Rio’s, Jamaica. Bit that was mostly due to all the excellent weed 😂

Despite that, we wouldn’t go back. It just doesn’t feel safe.

Orlando, Florida.

Same. And Universal Studios.

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 05/09/2023 19:06

Amalfi Coast and Sorrento. Awful narrow coast road, Choc a bloc with coaches. Totally touristy.

Flopsythebunny · 04/09/2023 18:39

Key west. It was like Blackpool with sunshine.
After such along drive it was disappointing

When did you go? I went for a month in the 80’s - it was divine. Traffic free, hippy/backpack culture, very gay, very arty, loved it. But so long ago!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 05/09/2023 19:07

Pompei - total shithole

exaltedwombat · 05/09/2023 19:14

Everywhere. Unless I had a purpose in being there and something more than 'holiday' stuff to do.

Macanncheese · 05/09/2023 19:17

Havana

AnnieSnap · 05/09/2023 19:20

Las Vegas and New York

Pollythenurse · 05/09/2023 19:22

Maldives - over priced desolate wasteland if you are a snorkeler / diver. Odd culture. Feels sterile and 'other'.

Jem57 · 05/09/2023 19:23

Pompeii boring

MsRosley · 05/09/2023 19:27

New Zealand. Vancouver. Torquay.

thaegumathteth · 05/09/2023 19:29

Agree @MsRosley re Vancouver . I wanted to like it and the setting is spectacular but I really didn't like the 'vibe'.

anotherside · 05/09/2023 19:34

Barcelona. Had a strong sense that they don’t like tourists. And it’s a nice city, but I prefer the vibe most other places in Spain. I’ve been to about a dozen Spanish cities and that’s the only one I’ve no desire to go back to.

New York. I can see why it was the centre of the world - once. But now it struck me - for the most part- as just a noisy, dirty, somewhat rundown metropolis with not very friendly people.

jellybeanpopper · 05/09/2023 19:34

Which part of Kenya? The beaches are so different from each other. Watamu and Diani are beautiful

Missflowers1981 · 05/09/2023 19:35

I loved Berlin and Prague at Christmas time. Really enjoyed Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
Enjoyed Budapest and Amsterdam too. Plus The Hague.

Paris I went to 5 years ago after not having visited for 20 years and it was a great trip lots of people watching from outside cafes.

Barcelona was good 10 years ago.

Mostly liked all the places in Italy I visited apart from Naples. Verona and Parma are underwhelming.
Went to Edinburgh after lockdown and the festival was not on that year so not at all crowded and really liked it.

Really enjoyed Dublin.
Loved Canada and New York. Although I’ve heard New York isn’t great anymore so I wouldn’t really opt to visit it now. San Francisco was meh apart from the visit to Alcatraz which I found interesting.
San Sebastián in Spain was fantastic and perfect mild temperatures.

Slovakia was wonderful for mountain hiking.

For me Stockholm was better than Copenhagen.

Gower Penisula in Wales also great for hiking.

I tend to do city breaks for 3-4 days and I’ve often found it was enough - any more I think I would be bored especially in European destinations.

Glastonbury ( not the festival) was quite frankly boring and Cambridge is ok for a day visit but no need to spend a whole weekend there.
Bath and Oxford I did enjoy.

Randomly went to Strasburg in France and whilst pretty absolutely very little to do there.

Egypt - loved Cairo and Dahab was good but Sharm, Hurghada and others were just big resorts. With not much else going on.

ErinAndTonic · 05/09/2023 19:36

New Orleans. Absolute hole!

Kuta Lombok in Indonesia was also a total state, completely filthy. (Not the Kuta on Bali)
