Warwick Castle

The Bahamas
Paris

Oh dear another one for Bahamas 😬 I've been really looking forward to going as well

MermaidMummy06 · 04/09/2023 22:03

Fiji.

Expensive, difficult to get around & there's very little to do. Half the beaches are man made.

Liveanlearn · 04/09/2023 22:03

Blackpool.

Possibly not the worst ever but laughing at everyone comparing their destinations to it. The idea of Blackpool - the illuminations, the tower, the lights, the fair..... Absolutely awful when you get there, especially if you go more than a street or two from the main drag. Although he main drag is clouded, sticky, and just horrible.

Solotravelleragain · 04/09/2023 22:04

Amsterdam
Prague

I liked Bali, but I wasn't in Ubud or the resorts. Like a PP, I spent my trip cycling and trekking round villages and rice paddies, and hiking Mt Batur for sunrise. And the reef snorkelling off Menjangan Island is just out of this world.

Effitall · 04/09/2023 22:05

San Fran
Washington DC
Glastonbury (festival and town)
Cornwall

Niagara Falls is good for a few hours, but about 30 mins away (Canadian side) Niagara on the Lake is a much nicer stay

I love NYC, but was lucky enough to have a great bus driver the first time I went who told us where to go as locals with kids rather than the tourist traps

Doublebubblegum · 04/09/2023 22:05

Definitely Brighton. I went there for the first time a couple of months back.

It was full of teenagers with no tops on, who'd been daytime drinking on the beach and every street stank of weed, more than any other city I've ever been in. Couldn't find anywhere nice to go for dinner, and the seafront was just like Blackpool. Nothing like what I was expecting it to be at all!

Foxglovers · 04/09/2023 22:05

Hawaii (Maui)

JoeyRamonesHair · 04/09/2023 22:05

@FuckingHellAdele No need to be sorry - I lived in Bideford for a bit. It is indeed a barnacle on Satan's arse.

SquirrelHash · 04/09/2023 22:06

The Lake District.

Drizzle, no parking, tourists everywhere, average looking views.

Milford sound and the lakes of Otago in NZ shits all over it from a great height

SemperIdem · 04/09/2023 22:06

I’ve been to Naples. The area where I stayed was lovely, right by Castle Nuevo. Went to the coast by private taxi and after a few days, got a train back to Naples central station.

It was was gobsmackingly awful, marauding groups of men forcibly selling “iPhones” which were clearly just bricks in iPhone boxes, hotels you’re more likely to get lice and murdered in than have a good time etc. It’s clearly somewhere you have to be careful where you stay, definitely research before booking!

FiddleLeaf · 04/09/2023 22:07

Universal Studios

Crikeyalmighty · 04/09/2023 21:57

@Delatron I like LA too- but it is a place I prefer more if you are there for a purpose I feel, my H usually has 3 or 4 meetings , so leaves me at rooftop pool with a book. I then take myself off for a cafe coffee and amazing pancakes etc , maybe pop to Westfield in Beverley hills or the grove (get cabs) and then meet him there , we usually have a car so will then maybe go to Santa Monica or Venice, then back to pool and bar. It's kind of shabby chic in parts, but disneyish in other bits- love griffin park and laurel canyon - also go for coffees at laurel canyon stores. I really like Santa Barbara too . I can see it's not a conventional tourist holiday - but I always find it very cheery - the homeless situation is awful though

Yes you’re right. I visit a friend who lives there so she knows all the right places to visit and we do lots of hiking which I love. I like the contrast of the hills and the beaches. Don’t tend to go to downtown LA much. The homeless situation has got so much worse in the last few years though. I think she’s become a bit desensitised but you notice it more when visiting.

PupInAPram · 04/09/2023 22:07

Amsterdam, London, Paris.

Bs0u416d · 04/09/2023 22:07

Bali and Dubai here!

FiddleLeaf · 04/09/2023 22:08

Ooh and San Francisco! Loved the trams but it was filthy and so many homeless people that everyone walked over. It was utterly bizarre.

IcedPurple · 04/09/2023 22:08

Another vote for Barcelona.

Way too many tourists, and yes I know I was one too. Jaded locals. Pickpockets everywhere.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 04/09/2023 22:08

Los Angeles. Awful

Drizzle? You mean pre-lake! Where do you think all that water comes from?

Mapletreelane · 04/09/2023 22:10

Paris. Been several times and always return trying to give it a chance but it never fails to disappoint. Makes me appreciate London so much more.

And I LOVE the rest of France, am a francophile....just find Paris a huge disappointment 😞

And Monaco does indeed look like a shanty town in the hills from a distance .

BitOutOfPractice · 04/09/2023 22:11

Paris
Dublin
Florence

ImAMinion · 04/09/2023 22:11

Dubai - I mean it’s sun certainty which is good but it’s way too overcrowded, expensive, tacky and demeaning to the country’s heritage these days. I went back in 2000-2004 and it’s changed a hell of a lot in visits since.
Abu Dhabi and the other emirates much nicer to visit.

Paris - yeah again like others you think you’re going to be walking along these beautiful streets towards the Eiffel Tower but actually it’s so dirty and I didn’t feel safe at all.

Likewise Rome. Great sights but dirty, hot and never felt safe.

Morocco. One and done. It’s a cultural aspect that many westerners (especially western women) can struggle with but again I just did not feel comfortable 99% of the time.

America - been there about 14 times (including two summers at summer camp when I was a student. I love it and hate it. Used to want to live there - now…….I find Americans on the whole very friendly and their customer service amazing…..but the patriotism and bias is another level, way too high, Americans can do no wrong and the ignorance is astounding. The take of many on American history is also quite painful. Some places I’ve been I’ve felt so unsafe by the guns etc. But a lot of places have been amazing and above certainly doesn’t count for everybody (but I can’t stand watching the news out there). Thankfully the place is so huge I’ll stick to the parts I love (that’s includes Disney - sorry!)

Where have I loved? Malta and Gozo, Gozo in particular. So peaceful and still some lovely things to do on such a small island. I recommend.

I love hiking and scenery. Snowdonia, the Scottish highlands, the Peak District….lovely.

The French Alps in the summer for non skiers. Beautiful.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 04/09/2023 22:11

Hong Kong for me. Maybe I’m being unfair to it. We visited for a few days on a layover from a long trip and it might’ve been fatigue but it just felt malevolent to me. Like the city actually didn’t want me there. I’ve never felt that way before or since in a place.

Rome is incredible but go in January when it’s pissing down the whole time. Much less crowded and dirty and the rain makes everything shiny.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 04/09/2023 22:11

Venice. My enduring memory is just how bad it smelt

IcedPurple · 04/09/2023 22:11

Dublin has changed so much its just awful. Born and bred there. Give me the open road out of it. Kerry galway donegal cork ..hire a car ..great adventure. Fly into cork or shannon..its magical.

Dublin was never a beautiful city like Edinburgh or Paris. But it did used to have character and charm. I say 'used to' because it's become so soulless and generic now. And the city centre is downright nasty at times.
