is it me or are they just getting lazier and more stupid. I'm done with it.
The last 3 months:
My postman despite numerous notes on the door is allergic to my doorbell he just knocks once and then goes away meaning I always have to go to the sorting office before work, then late for work to pick them up.
I have complained three times in writing, all these complaints have been ignored by the post office.
I have asked him in person to ring the doorbell - he just shrugs and walks off.
DPD - waited in for parcels for the entire weekend - my only days off for two weeks. Parcels not delivered because I "was not in". I left a note for them to ring the doorbell, they didn't ring the doorbell. I can't hear knocking through 3 internal doors.
Gardner - I have had 5 quotes from 5 different male gardners who advertise as being free. They came round to have a look and then were never seen or heard of again so that was me waiting in all day.
The 5th gardener quoted a fairly reasonable price, I left money in the shed as I had to go to work, came home, the job is half done, the garden is in a bloody mess, The rubbish hasn't been taken away, he hasn't dug up the shrubs I asked him to dig up. Took the money and what a surprise is uncontactable. i shamed him on the site I got him from and now I am apparently an "old witch" trying to ruin his business.
Plasterer, said he was coming in June, it's now September, this morning he says he is coming at the end of September. It seems he has a more important job on than my. Same with the decorator and the carpet layer. Would it kill him to contact me and keep me updated.
All I want is for the work to be done by winter so I can relax in my own home.
The patronising shitty attitudes from all these men is beyond belief.
Went for a coffee, it arrived cold. I said to the male owner, sorry but the coffee is cold can you warm it up a bit. He stood there shouting me down - I wasn't shouting I was very polite as always - in front of all the other customer, I was the only person to ever complain about the coffee blah blah blah, making me look like a right fool. I just walked out, I don't allow strange men to shout at me, his abuse followed me all the way to the street.
There is more but the post would be too long to read.
They are lazy, stupid and greedy and think any woman my age is a complete foot. I'm bloody sick of it.
I had to get it out of my system. Yes I'm sure there are good men out there but where the fuck are they?

If you go on My Builder site you get quotes and whoever you pick to do a job you leave a rating and comments. They have to pay them a fee so only committed people will go on there.

In addition Spotted page on facebook for your area will have recommendations. Useful for gardeners and so on. So eg Spotted Hounslow or Spotted Nottingham you search yr local page or put a request on.

I have found these options very helpful.

Just keep giving them bad reviews, thats what I've started doing. It worries them thats for sure.

The old plasterer I got from My Builder wrecked my house then the plaster fell off the ceiling in lumps. I took photos. They sacked him from the site but that was it. No compensation. He just disappeared. I have a good plasterer now but he is very flaky.

Must be your area.

We have had almost every tradesman in over past 18 months, except gardener, and they have all been lovely. I can WhatsApp them all now.

Do you have a local, like very local, Facebook page? Ours is great for recommendations, very local. Never had a bad experience.

Our postman goes above any beyond as well.

But whenever someone comes round to do a job or a new quote I ask them if they want a drink, I give our postie a Christmas tip in a card, best £10 we spend all year saved many a trip to the sorting office. We always pay in full on the day asked. Never pay final account until job is done. And just engage with people.

And once you get a couple of trades you can contact you can ask if they know a plaster etc

So I guess all the good tradesmen are around here!

Local Facebook is your friend here.

Spotted is local on facebook written by locals. Sounds the same thing.

Sounds like you’ve had a run of bad luck, or have been looking for an excuse to post another ‘ugh men’ thread.

Can I post here about the rude woman in my local Post Office who refuses to take my drop off parcels because ‘I shouldn’t be dropping them off there’ (erm yes I should, the Royal Mail website sent me here), the cafe worker who fed my coeliac friend a roll containing wheat when we ordered gluten free, or the female nextdoor neighbour who is a total PITA to live near?

Or doesn’t that fit the narrative? 😝

Well..this one is about supposedly professional men letting her down. There's nothing stopping you making your own thread about professional women. I've noticed you like to do a lot of whataboutery posts though. Very combatative rather than supporting 🤔

Btw, the royal mail website might not have been updated to reflect that particular PO as no longer accepting parcels. There was something about it on Rip Off Britain earlier this year. Maybe contact them to ask.
