We don't tend to take them in at secondary if forgotten
I'm surprised they need pe kit and instrument on the first day!

Dd is back on Wednesday and I still haven’t got PE kit, water bottle or backpack! But we’re going tomorrow to get them so fingers crossed I don’t forget anything!

Iliketulips · 04/09/2023 08:56

I've never taken anything in. Only thing I would consider is a drink or food if they didn't have access to it.

They went back last Wednesday.

I don't take things in. They'll manage without, and having to do so will make them more likely to remember next time.

At the start of secondary school, the school specifically asked us not to bail the kids out like this. They promised they'd deal with it kindly at first and to let them get on with it.

VenusClapTrap · 04/09/2023 09:26

I’m clearly too soft! Although I have made it clear to them that this is only for the first week while they get used to new timetables. One has just started flexi boarding so needs to remember stuff for more than one day now, and the other has just moved up from primary so there’s a lot to get used to.

Dd back Wednesday...if she forgets anything I will be at work so she will have to get on with it.

Carlessly · 04/09/2023 10:01

None. I never take stuff in, how else will they learn? If they have the wrong kit, they take the consequences. If they forget their drink, they drink from the tap and if they forget their snack, their friends share.
DC1 is at secondary, by the time I've found whatever and walked the 25 minutes there, the lesson will be over anyway!

Laptop and locker padlock so far this morning.

RoadLess · 04/09/2023 10:06

Lunch once or twice, when he was 7 and had just moved countries or schools. Nothing since.

Ha ha.
I remember the panic phone call that he had left his cornet outside the village shop before getting on the school bus! And I was 30 miles away by then.
As a single parent I had to be so creative with these situations. So glad I live in a friendly village. On that occasion I phoned a neighbour whose son also played an instrument- she was able to collect and deliver the cornet. As I phoned her she looked round her house & realised that her son had left his instrument at home as well - one trip to deliver 2 instruments 😀
So glad we all live in the same world!!
