Would you accept or refuse?

Until a few days ago, we had a car and I was part of a taxi group in the village. 4 DC take part in a sports club training twice a week, each family covered one trip usually set days but with flexibility if needed. We no longer have a car. I posted to the what's app group saying that and I would be leaving the group. One parent immediately posted back saying they would be happy to take DC as they will be going anyway and have "her" space in the car. The other two didn't comment.

I don't feel like I can accept this as we can never pay it back.
As I don't have a car, I feel I should leave the group - but then if they did continue to take DC and there's a change in arrangements, I wouldn't know.
I don't know if the other parents are happy to ferry DC around and I don't want to ask outright. I was absolutely not expecting anyone to offer to carry on!
I feel that DC can take the bus, so we should plan for this.

Time wise it makes no difference to DC.

Why not accept their offer and take their kid on the bus either ds when it's your turn?

WhateverMate · 04/09/2023 09:01

I would take the bus if I couldn't reciprocate the lifts.

I won't take DC on the bus, can go alone. All other children are older and already go to the secondary school where they train.

I'd reply - That's incredibly kind of you but I'd like to reciprocate in some way if I can, is there a thing I can do for you in return?

Maybe they would be delighted for you to walk their dog once a week at a difficult time for them, for instance. Who knows?

Can you not just chip in some petrol money?
