This is causing real problems in our house! Every time I do a clothes wash, DH's tops/polos/ T- Shirts are coming out with grease marks and he's becoming really annoyed about it.

No one else's clothes comes out the wash with marks like this.

Can anyone else provide a solution?

Have I entered a 1950s time warp? My 16 year old washes all his own stuff. Is there something wrong with him?

Had enough of the 1950's comments for today, thanks.

My husband is incapable of separating loads properly and he’s ruined lots of clothes by putting the sting things in the tumble dryer. So I’ve banned him from the washing.

we don’t wash separately in our house as it’s a waste. We don’t have enough clothes for everyone to have separate loads.

So I do the washing, but my husband does all the cleaning (dusting, hoovering, bins etc etc) deals with the bins & does about 70% of the cooking. I think I get off pretty lightly.

Drop of fairy liquid on the stains has always worked for me

Plenty of people split responsibility for chores, could well be that he does all the cooking (hence the oil spots) and she does the laundry. In a large family, it makes no sense and generally adds cost to wash different people's loads separately.

I’d do a clean service on the washing machine. I buy a sachet that goes in the drum every once in a while and wash it empty at the highest temperature to clean the drum.

I use fairy liquid on grease marks that take them out.

This used to happen with DHs tshirts. Pretty sure it was body spray/deodorant

Maybe aftershave ?

orangesandapples001 · 04/09/2023 23:15

I'd put the the machine on a super hot clean cycle (I normally put 3 dishwasher tabs in to clean the machine) with nothing on then only put his clothes in. X

This happened to my DH tops.I also have no idea why because everything else would be grease free. He also had a little tantrum like I was doing it on purpose.
I no longer do his washing.. problem solved :)

What do you use for detergent? Powder is the best, had similar grease marks after using the gel tablets.

junbean · 05/09/2023 00:12

citrus essential oils break up grease.

Thank you for all the helpful and sensible replies I've received. Having a better day today and trying and testing ways to sort the issue.

Much love 🫶🏻
