Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first brew, in my spot in the kitchen. The window's flung open so I can hear the birds but the washer's on so I can't hear very well 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'll take the tea outside. I have bacon defrosted for breakfast - hoping someone gets up soon, I'm well ready for brekky!

We're not doing much of anything today. Well, dd1 wants her hair dyed & dd2 wants me to trim the ends of hers, so I'm playing hairdresser. Dd1 also needs to print her college work and finish off a couple of pieces.

I want to very quickly paint a couple of props for work & get them varnished to go in tomorrow. 🤞 there is enough time - if not they'll go up mid-week when I can next make it to drop off. I have some more crochet colour monsters to finish off too but they won't take long.

If I get to it, I'll iron dd2's school shirts ready for Wednesday. If not, they'll be a tomorrow or Tuesday job.

Tea is leftover lasagne for me 😋 with salad again, and whatever the girls pick from the freezer. Dd1 was meant to cook today but forgot to defrost chicken (again 🙄). I'll do it for her tonight so she has no excuse tomorrow!

Tonight will be early ish showers all round and normal bed times too, the girls don't know it yet though. Dd1 has an interview tomorrow & dd2 will be grotty going back to school on Weds if there isn't some form of routine going on.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good Morning, first coffee on the go courtesy of the cats demanding their breakfast.
I am off for a walk into the woods with my friend soon so needed to get up anyway.
My DD's start back Tuesday and Wednesday and DD 2 is off to college! Very exciting.
We did last min shoes and clothes yesterday but still haven't been for stationery.
Not really sure what they do at college if they need note pads like in my day or all have laptops?!
It's burgers and fries and salad for tea with lovely pickles and brioche buns.
Need to cook some of my apples down for the freezer might make a crumble.
The lawns need mowing so we might take one each But it's going to be warm so may just leave them and ignore for a few more days!

lucysmam · 03/09/2023 09:02

@ilovebagpuss dd1's gone with notebooks for each A-Level, for now. We bought a bag with a large, inside, pocket that's big enough for her laptop if she decides to take it in future.

Good morning!

Been up for quite some time now thanks to dcat bringing in a very not dead rat at 4am. Both very quickly chased outside and then clean up of the rat blood from the kitchen floor 😒

Now on coffee number 3, dcat has dispatched said rat and had lots of praise. (unpleasant as it is, she's done more pest control than the council have)

Just about to get a long hot shower and get to finishing stripping wallpaper so I can finally get my living room decorated. Would like it finished in the next week or so but lots of prep needed. The old wallpaper was hiding a multitude of sins

Ex dp is dropping off ds soon too so I'll get him to muck in. Might get him off the screens for a bit and it's coming off in big chunks so quite satisfying

Looking like it's going to be quite a nice day so might knock up a picnic and take ds to the park later if he fancies it too

@lucysmam thank you I think that sounds most sensible, she does have a laptop but its a bit old and doesn't have office on so she probably needs an upgrade.
After a few weeks she will see how the land lies.

tinydancer88 · 03/09/2023 09:10

Well I don’t know what we’re having for dinner yet, but both lasagne and burgers sound good.

Just summoning the energy to make a pot of coffee but the place is so quiet and peaceful I don’t want to disturb anyone. Stepdaughter is working today. I need to go to the gym and do the food shopping and then perhaps we’ll go to the pub tonight.

soundsys · 03/09/2023 09:11

Ooh that sounds lovely! I'm waiting to be discharged from hospital to go home to a birthday lunch prepared by my 8 year-old. Then my 3-year-old has said I can watch Bluey in bed with her while I'm still "a bit fragile". 😊

Desecratedcoconut · 03/09/2023 09:19

Morning, I've been up for a while with dh and we've been putting the world to rights over a coffee but the kids are still fast asleep. I'm torn between waking them up to put them back on a reasonable schedule and letting them enjoy the last of their holiday lie-ins.

It's a lazy day today and I'm going to spend it pottering in the garden, tidying and getting organised. In particular, I think I have managed to solve a complicated
family Christmas hosting problem that is broadly the equivalent to that puzzle with the raft, three chickens and a fox.

I'm taking one of my teens to see a performance of Frankenstein tonight. I'm really looking forward to that.

JaiynDough · 03/09/2023 09:21

Drinking tea, reading my book, watching a bit of TV, making a pot of soup for next week.

MIGHT try and go for a jog.

Having a lazy day today.

Giggorata · 03/09/2023 09:24

Good morning, lucysmam and all.
I am just getting up, after a late night out at friends' and will have my usual tea to get me started.
It looks like a nice day, so washing out on the line shortly.
I also bought a nice outfit from a charity shop this week which is an intense acid yellow (and makes me look like a zombie), so I am working out which dyes to mix up to turn it into a more acceptable teal.
We are going our for a posh birthday lunch today, so no one is having breakfast.
Probably being too stuffed to move later, we will loll about and stream a film or a gig.

mug2018 · 03/09/2023 09:24

I'm sat outside my caravan with a coffee in the sunshine
I'll make a picnic for DD & I and walk down to beach with some friends (& try to avoid thinking about the return to work & the start of college for next week 😆)
Have a gorgeous day everyone

lucysmam · 03/09/2023 09:27

@soundsys aw, that sounds very sweet of your dc. I hope you're on the mend soon 💐

Morning! I’m lolling around on the sofa, drinking my second coffee and reading an ancient Maeve Binchy. DD is in the garden, chasing bees, and DP is pottering upstairs.
Sunny with blue skies so far, so hopefully we’ll get out in a bit - maybe to our local country park, which has a SEN-adapted playground.
Haven’t thought about lunch yet, but I’m sure DD will have strong opinions!
Hopefully an early-ish night as I’m back to work tomorrow after a week off and will have lots of catching up to do. DD’s got an inset day tomorrow and then back to school - alleluia!

GeraltsBathtub · 03/09/2023 09:40

You have reminded me I need to
defrost pork for DP so thank you! Will be doing a nut roast/roast pork dinner tonight.
Church this morning, then I fancy a mooch of the shops in town. It’s lovely weather here today so will try to get DP to get some washing out on the line while I’m shopping. Will probably try to do a bit of work this evening as well as I had a very unproductive Friday but will take it quite chill.

JumpingQueen · 03/09/2023 09:41

Good morning @lucysmam & others..

On my second cup of coffee, currently on here and flicking between fabric pages as I need to make some new curtains for the front door and possibly the lounge, I’ve fed all the animals and taken the dog for a walk!

Dh is washing the cars

Dc1 has just asked if we can go paddle boarding as it’s currently nearly 20 degrees so we may do that this afternoon 🤷‍♀️ to make the most of the sun as we’ve had so little this summer.

All school stuff was labelled and ironed yesterday, and I have 2 loads of washing left to do.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 03/09/2023 09:43

Morning Lucysmam and others. I have been awake since before six and I never go back to sleep once I'm awake. So a washing has been done and hung out. I've walked to Aldi for lentils and back again. The weather in central Scotland is lovely. I've made a slow cooker pot of lentil and vegetables soup with added chicken. I've stripped said chicken and will have some later for dinner. Currently I'm on the couch watching The World at War (cheery) and about to have a cuppa. Later I'll work on a painting and do an ironing.

Goingovertosusanshouse · 03/09/2023 09:45

Just about to make a second coffee while I binge some tv.
unpacking and washing 2 weeks worth of clothes, washing bedding and should probably do some school work before back tomorrow. Dreading it!

lucysmam · 03/09/2023 09:46

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand what are you painting?

OP posts:
LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 03/09/2023 09:51

It's a large orange oriental poppy in the style of Georgia O'Keefe. It's a mixed media piece, acrylic and pastel. I'm fairly pleased with it so far, but I've lost motivation over the summer.

Crunchymum · 03/09/2023 09:51

Finally summer has arrived!! Although of course we go back to school next week (not until Wednesday though!)

We had a massive day yesterday, swimming gala in the morning and then was at London Zoo all afternoon. So today we're on a go slow.

It's FIL birthday tomorrow but there's a family BBQ this afternoon. Think we'll just potter until then. Although older two want to go to local park on their bikes so I may get us all dressed and head out for an hour or so.

Sorted all the uniforms already and now have to wash iron all the summer uniforms - 29c here from mid week - so all the freshly pressed trousers and shirts will be useless.

mondaytosunday · 03/09/2023 09:59

Slept in quite late for me. Didn't get up til almost 8am - hungry kitties! Now have gone back to bed. I'm doing intermittent fasting so have to wait another couple hours before I can have anything to eat 😫. I live in a terrace in London bedroom at the front and i can hear all the families going out and about. Last weekend before school!
I won't see my 18 year old til late morning or after noon - she starts a year long course on Wednesday and had a summer project due which is taking a lot longer to do than anticipated. UCAS this year and she's done a spreadsheet of several unis, comparing characteristics. Our next few weekends are taken up with open days including Cambridge - I'm sure we will be discussing it all today as she meets with her old head of sixth form on Tuesday. She's had a recent change of direction so is stating the selection process over.
Son (lives away) day off today he'll be hitting the gym soon.
Dinner is pesto crusted lamb.

HawdMeBack · 03/09/2023 10:09

I'm sitting in the garden having my 3rd coffee of the day, enjoying the sun and listening to the birds. DH has taken our 2 DS to the supermarket to get some shopping. We usually do the food shop on a Saturday but ended up going to the beach instead. DB and his partner are coming round at lunchtime to see the boys and will likely stay a couple of hours. Hoping the kids will nap at some point to give DH and I a chance to tidy the house a bit. This afternoon, we'll either head back to the beach (DS1 loves climbing the big rocks down there and DS2 likes throwing stones in the water), or we'll play in the garden. Which one depends on whether or not the nap happens. It's chicken fajitas for tea and an early night for the DC as DS1 has nursery first thing in the morning.

Decafflatteplease · 03/09/2023 10:23

Morning @lucysmam and all! DH got up with the little ones this morning so I had a lovely lie in and he brought me tea in bed 😁

It's back to school tomorrow for some of my DC so just need to check all uniform is ready etc and name labelled this morning.

Also want to change the beds, we were debating a few days ago switching to winter duvets as it was so cold in the evening but given next week's 24 degree forecast we will stick with summer ones! So just the covers to change today. Love a fresh bed simple pleasures!

This afternoon we are off for a walk in the woods just for an hour or so.

Home for gammon roast this evening then early night ready for 6am alarm tomorrow 😱

NoPanicNecessary · 03/09/2023 10:28

Drinking tea while waiting for the plasterer to come and feeling anxious about starting night shifts for my new role tomorrow night. DH has gone to the tip (which he loves). DS 1 watching TV, DS 2 gaming. D cat stressed/trying to kill me when I walk past, due to chaos in the house (waiting for new kitchen so mess everywhere). Meeting ILs for Sunday lunch later. Wondering where I'm going to find space to iron uniforms for Tuesday. Loving the sunshine tho!

JorisBonson · 03/09/2023 10:29

Eating toast in the kitchen while I start on BBQ sides. MIL coming round this afternoon and hasn't been having a great time so want to make a bit of a fuss.

ShipshapeShore · 03/09/2023 10:29

I love reading about everyone's plans. It's oddly comforting!

We're going for lunch with my parents as usual, looking forward to sharing a bottle of white wine with Mum in the garden. Been a bit low this week so just what I need.

DD has a mild dose of tonsillitis (I think) so I'm hoping she's ok for school tomorrow. She's been back 4 days but already missed 1 and went late another due to some other medical probs she's having. I really wanted to start this school year calm and organised but so far it's been stressful and hectic! Children, eh?

Very envious of all of you able to visit the beach or paddle board. Have a wonderful time 😊
