It’s back to school for my 2 children on Monday and I’ve had enough of looking in their cupboards and bags.

Can someone go through my check list for me please?

Youngest (year 4)
• 5 shirts ironed and labelled
• 3 pinafore dresses ironed and labelled
• 3 cardigans ironed and labelled
• 2 ties labelled
• Pe kit ironed and labelled (shorts, T-shirt, jogging bottoms and sweatshirts x 2 of each, plus pair of PE socks)
• School shoes labelled
• Pe shoes (1 x plimsoles and 1 x trainers both labelled)
• Swimming kit (towel, goggles, hat and swimming costume in waterproof bag labelled)
• Winter coat labelled
• Pack a mac in school bag labelled
• Backpack, pencil case, book bag, lunch bag, sandwich box and bottle labelled
• 5 x pairs short socks, 5 x pairs of long socks and 5 x pairs of tights

Eldest (year 11)
• 5 shirts ironed and labelled
• 3 trousers ironed and labelled
• 2 blazers labelled
• 2 school jumpers labelled
• 2 ties labelled
• Pe kit ironed and labelled (rugby shirt, shorts, T-shirt, jogging bottoms and sweatshirts x 2 of each) - gum shield in storage case in bag along with PE socks
• School shoes labelled
• Pe shoes (1 x football / rugby boots and 1 x trainers both labelled)
• Winter coat labelled
• Pack a mac in school bag labelled
• Backpack, pencil case, calculator, maths kit, lunch bag, sandwich box and bottle labelled
• 5 x pairs socks
• Laminated 2 week timetable

My brain has given up now. I’m certain I’ve forgotten something. It’s probably just my paranoia as I’m usually really disorganised but I’m worried…..

Water bottles? Sorry saw you already mentioned that. Please ignore.

Seems like a very thorough and complete list to me. Think you can relax a bit now!

Is your 15 year old not able to check their own stuff?

peanutbutterandbananas · 02/09/2023 22:40

I'm in awe of this organisation! Looks all covered to me! Well done 👏

Yes generally he is. But he is head boy this year so I wanted to be absolutely sure he has everything he needs.

Ooo that reminds me to label his tie as he needs to start wearing it this year. Thanks!

Thank you. I'm normally the one who's messaging the class what's app group last minute to ask house colours or pe days etc so I was determined to do something right this year

If it helps I bought a stamptastic stamp for clothes and I did the lot in about 10 mins. Used to take me over an hour, so definitely recommend it

Uniform ✔️
Pe kit ✔️
Bag ✔️
All labelled
Yep you've covered it

Sanch1 · 02/09/2023 22:51

Your bonkers list was far too long for me to read. If they've hit uniform to wear, shoes and some form of lunch they'll be ok 🙄

Bonkers?! Do your kids not get into trouble for forgetting things then?

Kids in both the schools have had to miss lunch breaks / had after school detentions for things as simple as wearing grey socks not black or white, or not having enough pens in their pencil case....

Rugby socks? Ignore if they don't use them or that's what you mean by PE socks! We've got the long rugby/football ones and white PE socks to do!

KylieKangaroo · 02/09/2023 23:01

You're a better woman than I am! I have not even washed my daughters cardigan from the end of last term yet 😅 I did get it out of the car though!

Yep. We have royal blue long ones that are multi purpose. Plus some short black ones with non slip soles for the indoor pe such as when they do dance or gym work

Your kids primary sounds draconian!! Detention for wrong colour socks on a child not old enough to be responsible for what colour socks they wear?

Year 4 (so 8/9tos) wearing ties?

Jesus

CrapBucket · 02/09/2023 23:05

I don’t know if this is meant to be a stealth brag but it all sounds a bit much… if you are genuinely stressed, just relax a bit. It’s only school.

I know. I couldn't believe it when the boys mum posted about it on the WhatsApp group.

Another child was given a detention for not doing his weekend homework even though his mum had had a baby that weekend (year 2 at the time).

They wear ties from reception in our school. They used to wear blazers too but stopped that the year my youngest started.

I am stressed. I've been unwell for some time with mental health issues and leant heavily on my MIL for help for almost everything and this is the first time I've done it on my own since my eldest was in year 6

@NameChangeEmbarressed

Errr no. Primary school they don't get in trouble. Once my kids get to yr 11 if they can't organise themselves to have the right stuff they deserve detention etc

travelogue · 02/09/2023 23:08

I've been going through DS's stuff today so it's at the forefront on my mind - I can't see what you could have forgotten! Bravo! I've got loads of stupid socks left to label and football / rugby boots to buy. By Tuesday.. so guess what I will be doing Monday night?! Grin

You are so lucky. It's horrible, lots of the kids hate going to school as they will be shouted at for the smallest thing

Im guessing this isn't a standard state primary / secondary right?

lancslass17 · 02/09/2023 23:11

Have you got food in for packed lunches, kids bathed.

aintnothinbutagstring · 02/09/2023 23:13

I'll be lucky if my year 11 remembers to bring a pen that works.

BorisBroccoli · 02/09/2023 23:17

Delete your list and change school? Poor parents and children, so unnecessary and draconian to get detention for a slightly discoloured sock Hmm.

I send my dd with slightly faded 2nd/3rd hand polo shirts and skirts plus plain dark socks and well loved cardigans to her outstanding primary. I'd never in a million years iron primary school uniform, who's got the time?!

Labelling is no biggy, everything gets sticky labels as soon as it's bought here. Did you buy all shirts new that you had to label them?

Year 11 child should sort it all himself.
