What to say to hens?

Kat19899 · 02/09/2023 11:31

I’m going to a hen party in a few weeks and there will be about a 10 year age gap between me and the other hens. I have met a few before but a long time ago. I hide it quite well but I’m quite socially inept 😂 and shy/awkward with new people.

What do I talk to them about? How do I break the ice? I struggle in groups so do I single out a lone hen? I’m not usually in situations where I spend hours with strangers and I’ve not been to a hen party before so I know it’s silly but it’s making me a bit stressed 🙈

Please give this poor chicken some tips or things to say!

'So why did you cross the road?'

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If on a hen night most will have made an effort.
'love your earrings!'
'great shoes. Mine are killing me/I've given up on heels' (use as appropriate).
Hi, I'm Kat19899! I've heard a lot of lovely things about you/all of you,
'Ooh got to find the ladies loo' that's a good one there is usually someone who wants to go with you and scope out the loos...

My favourite ice breaker is to ask what is everyone's stripper name, it's your first pets name plus the name of the road you lived on when you were born (this is not one for an upright crowd of hens).

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 17/10/2023 00:58

Do not do the stripper name thing. Makes you sound like a scammer Facebook post.

ALongHardWinter · 17/10/2023 01:28

I also thought this was going to be how to chat to chickens. 😂

Enyo2 · 17/10/2023 01:39

I clicked to give some advice on it (chickens )

IamRa · 17/10/2023 04:02

"Why are you being so moody?" (In an aggressive tone - you can't be sweet with a broody hen.)

Disappointed that this is not about how to talk to chickens. Grin

Exactly what I came here to say! 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓

Catsmere · 17/10/2023 08:07

Hey OP, as an icebreaker you could tell them how all these nutters you asked about hen dos talk started talking about chooks! 😂

Silkiefloof · 17/10/2023 08:08

We have Silkie chickens. Generally we would start the conversation with Bork, Bork, Bork, would you like some more food? That generally proves popular and then you give more food. Can continue it with water.

GroanWoman · 17/10/2023 08:17

People love compliments.
"I love your dress, where did you get it? Wish I had the figure to pull it off..." etc. is a way in, at least. Could progress to talk about e.g. gym/exercise from the figure comment; or to a love of Vinted, or something.

(I wouldn't initiate a conversation by asking anyones 'stripper name' - they'll think you're a loon)

GroanWoman · 17/10/2023 08:18

(must confess I did actually click for talk about chickens🐔)

billyt · 17/10/2023 15:29

And again, I too expected a chicken discussion Grin

Still works if they are awful...

tell then to Cluck off to the other side of cluck, then cluck off some more.

Doggymummar · 02/09/2023 11:54

Me too

Grin Same! Non-bird hens didn't even cross my mind!

Kat19899 · 17/10/2023 21:22

😂😂😂 You will all be so disappointed I didn’t cluck or ask for any stripper names. But I did have a good time and didn’t have too many moments where I felt awkward which is a win for me. I think prosecco before lunch helped and seeking out people I had met before. Thank you all for your suggestions ❤️ I really struggle in groups so they really helped

Glad you enjoyed it, OP, even if you didn’t mention poultry!

NoThanksymm · 10/05/2024 02:57

Oh you’re a decade younger! Someone will just adopt you.

my father in law likes to talk about power generation. Solar, dams, wind. Someone is always excited to get in on that. So just stick to your interests!

JoniBlue · 10/05/2024 03:24

Just be yourself! Oops, just read your update! 😀

PieFaces · 10/05/2024 05:17

Think of questions you can ask them so they are doing lots of the talking
