Hello all.. I’m travelling to Capetown early next year . Accommodation is booked just have to get flights sorted. There are three of us: one adult, one teen and a child. Teen is ND so I am getting concerned over such a long flight for them and was thinking of breaking it up with a stopover.
We are travelling from London and I was thinking of stopping in Accra en route .
Is this a good place to stop?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you 😊

Accra is lovely, but why don’t you do a night flight to South Africa? There will be no jet lag, and you should all be able to get some sleep.

I think that would be a good idea , I just worry about my eldest and how he will cope.
Thank for your reply.

If there is a direct flight, take it.
Adding in a stop adds at least 3 hours to the time - an extra take off, extra landing, and transfer time. There is more chance for things to go wrong, more opportunity for luggage to get lost, flights to be missed, delayed or cancelled.

Unless you actually want to go to Accra, and make it part of the holiday, take the direct flight.

I would definitely go direct and on a night flight so you'll sleep overnight

I've just got back from Cape Town and did the overnight BA flights from Heathrow for both legs. Yes it's a long flight and I can only cat nap on planes but it was bearable. In flight entertainment had tons of choices of films, music, games, radio, music, TV, podcasts etc. I'd get it out the way in one go unless you make your stop over a proper few days visit to the place you're stopping in.
