If you’ve been to Greece in early October what was the weather like?

We are heading to northern Greece - ikos - on the 5th October for two weeks.
I’m starting to have my doubts about whether the weather is going to be any good, we couldn’t afford to go earlier in the year, and have never been this time of year before.
i know of course it might be more mixed than say June, but was wondering if you’ve been this time of year before what the weather was like?

I had looked at the average temperatures when we booked so I don’t know why I’m having a wobble now! Maybe due to our lack of summer!

I’ve been in late September. It was sunny and warm in the day (although did get a bit windy on some days) and chilly enough to need a jacket in the evening.

hope you have a wonderful break!

We went in October half term a couple of years ago. You could wear shorts and T-shirts but it got a bit colder and windy in the afternoon/evening.

The swimming pool was bloody freezing so we couldn't use the swim up bar but if you swam about a bit you got used to it. Just getting in and out was cold.

@SkiingIsHeaven this is what I’m a bit worried about that it will be too cold for DS to swim!

We went to a Greek island, last week of September and first few days of October. They had a heatwave. Maximum temperature one day was 39 degrees. Otherwise, it was still hot and pleasant.

@Embelline While it is a southern european country, it is still autumn in October.
It will probably be warm for UK standards, but it wont be hot summer weather!

If you still want warm weather in early October I'd pick Crete or one of the southerm Islands. I can't comment on northern Greece but Crete is definitely still warm then but with occasional windy days.
If sunbathing weather is important to you, are you able to change location?

I went towards the end of October last year. It was about 22/23 degrees during the day, in the sun. A bit cooler in the shade and with the wind you did sometimes need some light long sleeves. It was warm enough to sunbathe, go to the beach and swim in the sea, but the pool was too cold.

The evenings were chilly enough to need a jacket/choose to eat inside.

We had one day of torrential rain, but I think that was unusual, it shut the airport and made the news!

Embelline · 02/09/2023 08:52

We can cancel but I don’t think we will be able to get something on par with what we’ve booked in another location.

DS and DH don’t like it too hot, their ideal temperature is early 20s during the day so I’m hoping we will get that. I’m mainly worried about it being cold or rainy but it sounds like it might be ok. I suppose the weather has also been unseasonably warm this year so maybe that will last into early October!

We went to Crete in early October 4 years ago. Apart form one torrential downpour when we arrived, it was high 20s/low 30s for the whole week.

It was definitely warmer than 20 degrees but not hot. I don't remember needing a jacket in the evening.

The kids weren't bothered about the cold pool because they swim a lot and you don't notice it then.

We also went on a boat trip and swam in the sea which definitely felt warmer than the pool.

I would go again at that time of year.

We went the last weekend in September. It was boiling!
