GPS watches for kids

Has anyone used a GPS watch with their child? Looking for recommendations.

DS is pretty much ready to start a bit of independent play with his mates after school at the playing field by our house.
most of the other kids parents give them
phones and use apps like life 360 to keep track. I really don’t want ds to have a phone yet. Was going to get him a watch to keep track of time, and have now fallen into the world of gps watched for kids. I like the idea of being able to see where he is and also being able to send him a message / buzz him to remind him
its home time.

would love to hear of anyone has used them
and if they are as useful / functional as they sound?

thanks

When our kids were in there 9s, we got cheap ones from china. V expensive to get running and a bit rubbish. Then we did what people used to do and let them free range in reasonably safe places. We still have them all.

Thanks. I’ll look at the imoo.

My most 9 year old has a Spacetalk adventurer watch. Can phone and text and track him on an app, but no internet access. Perfect for us for until he gets a proper phone when a bit older.

I looked into this and xplora had the best reviews. DD’s friend has one and parents like it a lot

I got my boy a rather pricy watch and when I looked for him, he was over 3 miles away in the woods. Stupid watch scared me. He was at the park just across from the house. The GPS is rubbish on so many of those damn things. I ended up with an iPhone, life 360 and a bum bag for him to carry it in.
