No!

Septemberdaysarehere · 01/09/2023 20:14

No. I have an ancient leather teachers satchel that is used every year. Same pencil case. I do have my own huge lab and office though - so everything is on hand at work - meds, diary etc. I have an iPad so no need really !

In terms of my question I don’t actually mean for your classroom etc. the spending is purely for you!

No, I just buy things when they wear out and definitely not a new bag every year.

I buy a Teacher Planner every year. God I love them. (A4, from the Teacher Planner Company or Pirongs, essentially the same) They're my bibles. Contain notes, names, ideas, registers, marks, lesson plans. I don't need any of that as everything is on our electronic register and G-Suite so I guess it's still a luxury extra for me.

No, although I did buy a new pair of school shoes as I've worn the same pair continuously for the last two years.

For me the highlight of back to school shopping was getting things like stationery etc. i
love the search for a new planner/ diary.

@PeachPieStreet I love the Bic 4 colour pens. I bought the ombré barrel ones this year. I recommend Ryman for cute stationery and it’s so mich cheaper than WH Smith in my opinion.

Nice! Thanks for the recommendation :)

I'm only a TA but I've just bought a pair of sturdy (but stylish! Sort of, they're Clark's!) shoes with playground duty in mind. A couple of dresses. And then some pens and bobbles and things for my little area. And a new lanyard from Kenji 😂

NillyNoMates · 02/09/2023 17:53

no, I don’t earn enough to do that.

LolaSmiles · 02/09/2023 17:56

I'm happy to buy myself some nice pens, a planner that isn't a school issue one that you have to write the dates in by hand, and will generally review my autumn/winter workwear options.

I don't buy new things for the sake of it and am at that point where I'm over seeing people spend huge amounts of their own money on their classroom.

No.

I have a cracking bag that I was given as a Christmas present in 2000.

Why would you replace stuff every year ? Confused

viques · 02/09/2023 18:10

I used to buy something expensive special as a going back to school bribe present to myself. Wasn’t allowed to be anything school related though!

Excitingnewusername · 02/09/2023 18:40

I'm in HE, and tend to do a pre-term restock of office emergency supplies (mainly painkillers, easy to grab quick energy food, chocolate, more chocolate, some more chocolate, teas and coffees, and tissues for crying/ill students/colleagues), check my walking commute in crap weather supplies and replace as needed.

I may buy myself something as a bribe to help get me through the first couple of weeks of chaos and exhaustion too. Currently eyeing up a new insulated cup or two to get through the long days where timetabling forgets we may need a break rather than teaching constantly for 6 hours.

Rocknrollstar · 02/09/2023 18:43

I used to cover my lessons register in postcards from where I’d been in the summer. I never bought anything for the new year except a new diary for my teacher size Filofax.
