Maple bbq pork steaks from tesco. Date 30th Aug. Been in the fridge, unopened. No puffiness in the packaging. Just went to throw them out, seems such a waste.

I wouldn't because I don't eat meat. But the date says best before right?

VeridicalVagabond · 01/09/2023 16:44

I'd eat them, I basically ignore sell by and use by dates anyway. If it looks fine and smells fine and isn't moving it's probably fine. I'm still alive.

Fine to eat if they look and smell OK!

Basilthymerosemary · 01/09/2023 16:55

Yes

I doubt it. Meat is usually 'use by'

YouHoooo · 01/09/2023 16:58

I’d smell it and go by that.

Alargeoneplease89 · 01/09/2023 16:58

Yes, it's only 2 days, if it looks and smells OK

Daftasabroom · 01/09/2023 17:01

Id scrape the gastly maple syrup of then cook it. The sugar in the maple syrup is a preservative.

EbiRaisukaree · 01/09/2023 17:02

It’s harder to tell if the smell has changed when they’ve been marinated, and also to see if the texture has become slimy. I would be more wary of using these particular ones than I would some where I could see and smell just the meat.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/09/2023 17:03

If it smells ok then yes

Divebar2021 · 01/09/2023 17:03

Yes I would

bluejumping · 01/09/2023 17:03

Definitely

Bemyclementine · 01/09/2023 17:04

@EbiRaisukaree that's the problem isn't it. The marinade masks any changes in hiwit looks/smells.

Cook it well and it'll be fine 🙂

Cowlover89 · 01/09/2023 17:06

It'll be fine

Goingdeaf · 01/09/2023 17:24

Yes. But we get our meat from a butcher and it never has dates on, so I'm not a date-watcher by nature.

scoobydoo1971 · 01/09/2023 17:24

Smell it as meat is pretty good at whiffing when it is off. If not sure, wash the sauce off and then sniff.

WonderingWanda · 01/09/2023 17:31

Pork is pretty vile smelling when it goes off.
