I bought a used couch from ebay will the delivery drivers also try and get it in the house or will they just dump it outside

Offer them a cup of tea :)

Hi @sparkleshin
I've had a few sofa deliveries in my time from different companies and they all bring the sofa inside. If you have an old sofa, ask if they'll take it too.

NoodleNuts · 01/09/2023 16:56

Did you buy it from a company on eBay who would do their own deliveries, or from an individual with a man-with-a-van for delivery?

If the former, I would expect them to bring it into the house. If the latter, they will probably leave it outside unless they are in a particularly good mood!

Have you triple checked the measurements of doors etc to ensure it will fit through without problems?

No. I don't know how to take the sofa apart either.

Even if the delivery guys do help to get it in, it might not fit through the door.

Often the feet or even the arms can come off. Do you have patio/French doors? That'll be worth considering if you do.

When buying my new sofa, I had to dismiss loads cos they wouldn't have fitted through my door!

Highlyflavouredgravy · 02/09/2023 23:19

We had our front window popped out to fit the sofa through

Deathbyfluffy · 02/09/2023 23:21

How will anyone on here know without knowing the delivery company’s policy?

How? And how did you get it back in again?

No

Then do that first. Are there any bends?

My auntie in her seventies just had a sofa delivered from dunelm and they wouldn't bring it in. I'm so furious about it.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 02/09/2023 23:31

We got a bloke from a double glazing company to come out- the glass bit literally pops out , the sofa is passed through and then the glass unit is replaced

neommear · 02/09/2023 23:34

I got my window taken out by a handyman who knew his windows, was a pain finding someone though. He took it out at 7am and it was out for the delivery window, then he put it back in later. Was only £120 and took him maybe 15 mins to take it out, and 20 back in.

YellowDots · 02/09/2023 23:40

Who is delivering it?

What sofa is it, have you got a link? Have screwdrivers ready in case you need to take the legs off.

How far is it being carried once it's through the door and does it have to go round any corners?

Bizarre and frankly stupid not to have measured whether the sofa would get through the doors !!!

Worse case scenario is it won't fit so they'll leave it outside. Then up to you to get it in somehow or get it taken away.

Do you know the sofa measurements? If so you should measure your doorways and access routes now so you know the score.

sparkleshin · 03/09/2023 18:16

it turned out to be some sort of scam. Have to try and get my money back now.

QuillBill · 03/09/2023 18:30

Oh no! What happened and how did you pay?

Through ebay. They listed it for delivery and then told me it was a mistake and I need to arrange and pay for the delivery. I've spoken to ebay

EBay will almost always favour the buyer, you shouldn't have any trouble getting you money back. Just take a screen shot of where it says it'll be delivered.
