Diesel in washing machine!

I stupidly stuck Dh’s work trousers in the washing machine, he’d spilled some diesel on them. Well the smell didn’t go and now the washing machine stinks of fuel.
I’ve put the drum on a hot wash but no difference. How can I get rid of it?

White vinegar in an empty load might help? Plus bicarb maybe. I'm not sure tbh, just thinking of standard odour removal techniques.

Can I put white vinegar & bicarb in with the washing? I washed the trousers with some dusters and some trousers I use for decorating but now they all smell 😫

Don't use vinegar and bicarb together - they cancel each other out.

Diesel is an oil, so a hot wash with double detergent and a good scoop of washing soda for the clothes, after a boil wash (or cleaning cycle if you have one) with washing machine cleaner to clear the machine out. And clean the filter while you're at it.

Empty hot wash with bicarb and some cut lemons. Degrease the rim it'll likely hold the diesel.
