Simple air fryer for older person

champagnetruffleshuffle · 01/09/2023 11:15

I'd like to get my dm an air fryer but I know she won't use it if it is overly complicated.

She lives on her own and would only use it as a small oven to roast veg, cook a chicken breast, etc.

Can anyone recommend a small and (most importantly) simple air fryer, please?

I'm looking for the same for my elderly mum. Nothing too complicated. I've looked online and the choice is vast so hoping you get some replies here.

I haven't used this so can't fully recommend (and not sure if it's too large) but I think something like the controls on this would probably be a good option.

It looks like it just has 2 manual dials, one for temperature and one for cooking time. My nan has a halogen oven with similar controls and she uses it all the time. Anything with a touch screen or multiple options she probably would have found confusing and not used.

I have one from b and m. Two manual dials. I just leave it on max temp so to turn on you just twist the dial to the right time. Cheapest one in store £49

My elderly dad has the Lakeland one and seems ok with it. It's made a real difference as he was struggling to bend down and put things in the oven.

My mum (nearly 80) has got a Salter 2818 (Buy Salter EK2818 3.2L Air Fryer - Black | Air fryers and fryers | Argos) and loves it. (I've used an Argos link but she bought it instore at Robert Dyas). She originally had a more complicated one but took it back and this one was what they recommended.

She finds it easy to use and really enjoys it. Jacket potatoes made in it are a current particular favourite.

Hope you can find one that your mum likes. Best wishes to you.

My dad has this one (I have the touch screen version) and it's really easy

I've got this one (it's also available on Amazon). Two dials (time and temperature), and the basket can go in the dishwasher. I bought a couple of silicone baskets to go inside it.

I have the digital version of this, I don't use the pre programmed settings so I could have saved myself some money and bought this version. I'm really impressed with it, it's compact and easy to clean. I think the measurements given are incorrect as the footprint of mine is just under 25 cms square, the height is correct at 32 cm.

What you need is a halogen oven . I’ve been using one for years . Very simple yet large enough to cook almost anything .

champagnetruffleshuffle · 01/09/2023 13:31

These look great, thank you all. The two dials look much more user friendly for her than the touch screen ones I've seen. All she'll need is temp and time controls.
Didn't know you could get inserts too, brilliant.
Now off to look at the difference between halogen oven and air fryer!
