Does anyone else listen to music from back in the day

When you were young, with no responsibilities and life wasn't totally shit?

I'm working my way through YouTube live Marillion concerts from the 1980s and marvelling that I can remember most of the words when I forgot 2 of the 5 things I needed in Tesco earlier 😂

Anyone want to share their 'I was young and happy once' tunes?

My Mum was in a Care Home for a while and they were always playing old time, mainly War songs - we'll meet again etc

i do wonder in 20 years time whether Care homes will rock to the sounds of The Jam, The Stranglers, The Clash, ABBA etc 😅

I had a 'Back in the day' session last week - watched Madonna's Truth or Dare "documentary" on BBC. Bloody hell, took me right back to 1990 😱😂

I realised the other day that I basically still listen to all the same music as when I was 12. Thankfully this was all largely indie/punk/ska stuff with a fair few 80s power ballads thrown in. I would hope not to be listening to the Spice Girls or Steps or something at the grand old age of 38 😅

I'm 43 and I still listen to Steps! 🤣

grayhairdontcare · 01/09/2023 19:57

My Alexa playlist is my life from 13 to 20 in music form.

clarepetal · 01/09/2023 20:09

It's all I do!

drinkuptheezider · 01/09/2023 20:25

I've got 70s/80s playlists on Spotify that I listen to on loop 😆
Certain tracks bring back certain memories, and I can get lost in nostalgia.

I'm 58 and have some Spice Girls on a Spotify playlist 😎 Specifically Who Do You Think You Are

@RainbowZebraWarrior Great CD!

Ok my dirty little secret is that my Spotify driving playlist includes such classics as No Way No Way by Vanilla, Touch Myself by Divinyls and quite a bit of Aqua. I just draw the line at the Spice Girls 😅

"So here I am once more,
In the playground of the broken hearts..."

Yes OP , I'm with you and spend a fair bit of time on Youtube in the evenings listening to former hits that resonated with me.

I thought you were referring to dirty little secret by all American rejects and was excited 😂

I've told DD to not even think about putting me anywhere that doesn't have T-Rex, The Clash, any music from the "Madchester" era or KLF in their music library, otherwise I'll haunt her until the end of her days. 😅

Mollyplop999 · 02/09/2023 05:47

All the time! And I find myself listening to music that I used to think was cheesy too.

FiveShelties · 02/09/2023 06:04

Always listen to old stuff - Meat Loaf, Moody Blues, The Who, Pink Floyd, Steve Hackett, Genesis - so many fantastic bands playing excellent music.

christmasbarbie · 02/09/2023 07:20

I grew up late 90's/ early 2000's. Loved all the pop from those days. I have also got my dd in to the songs, so now in the car or just having a music night at home we will listen to the songs from my childhood, and cos I've got her in to them she is more than happy to listen to a bit of spice girls and anyone else I like

Love it. The music of my youth.

Haha no, but I love that song so it's not exactly a dirty little secret (if that makes any sense at all 😅)

Monday morning commute with Groove is in the heart is so much better.

Mrburnshound · 02/09/2023 09:18

I always listen to 90s music. It's not my fault all the best music is from that decade haha

HennyPenny1234 · 02/09/2023 09:26

I've got 250-300 tracks in my YouTube account, a lot from the 80's

I often listen to them very late at night when everybody has gone to bed, great memories but the downside is it makes you realize how fast time goes by

Soonenough · 02/09/2023 11:34

@Abhannmor The Associates ! Lovely Billy. Played NYE in a NYC nightclub whilst I was visiting my brother. .😁

HRTQueen · 02/09/2023 12:02

Yes I love listening to music that takes me back to a time when I had less responsibilities and life was simpler and exciting (I block out that I was extremely anxious and the panic attacks)

la Isla Bonita takes me back to how I felt dreaming of when I would go to such beautiful places

Wow! I only know a few songs , like Party Fears Two . But I always thought they would be huge. Sadly not to be.

Do you have little oddities that ' should have been hits ' stuck in your memory?
Another one is Thank You by the Pale Fountains. YouTube is a treasure - sometimes.

I still have my Pale Fountains 'Thank You' single. Still listen to Mick Head regularly. Saw him a few years back in Liverpool, at the museum/art gallery place next to the docks.

Yes, I always listen to music from my teens and early 20s as I realise that's when I was happiest. Coincidentally, it was also when I had freedom with zero adult responsibilities.

Does wanting to be a child ever truly go away, or do people in their 90s still long for happier times?
