I'm so utterly sick of the price we have to pay for everything

I noticed this today...my local petrol station has put up the price from £1.42 to £1.59 in the space of a week! I had no idea it was on the increase again and was as shocked as you OP 😥😨

Nowanextraone · 31/08/2023 18:51

Yeah it seemed to come from nowhere. We are shafted at every turn these days

If you have one near I’d recommend joining Costco. By far the cheapest fuel although the queue is massive 🙄

I didn't notice the price today but I did notice 3 stations all local, all full of queues of people filling then I realised they were all having to queue because half the pumps had the yellow out of stock plastic covers. Made me wonder if there was a shortage in the area 🤔 Probably just a coincidence.

OPEC cut production to keep prices high, plus the pound is performing poorly against the dollar which also increases prices. An unfortunate double whammy.

JassyRadlett · 31/08/2023 19:10

Plus I think the CMA found evidence that supermarkets have increased their profit margins as wholesale prices fell...

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 31/08/2023 19:13

Me and DH have noticed this! My local market town is selling it for £1.55 a litre. Was £1.43 a month ago. I am fuming! Angry No reason for it. We're being mugged off!

ALSO, a little independent garage not far from me is selling it for £1.39 right now!) As I said, we are being mugged off!

Exactly this - OPEC is a cartel and has a stranglehold on production and prices

They need to save up. Oil runs out.

Siezethefish · 31/08/2023 19:21

If it makes u feel any better, it’s around 2e/litre in France

BorgQueen · 31/08/2023 19:24

Because it’s School holidays, it happens ever year. The same at Xmas.

ActDottie · 31/08/2023 19:44

Omg yes it’s gone up about 10p a litre but nothing has been said about I the news etc. or not that I’ve seen!

Sadly my nearest Costco doesn't sell petrol

My local independent place does that but they’re very open about it being a loss leader, so I do try and pick up a couple of things when I go.

Yes they’re taking us all for a ride

Schools went back in Scotland middle of August

Pedallleur · 31/08/2023 20:15

Oil companies can do because who is going to stop them and right now other costs are increasing so might as well get in on it. Don't forget the Govt gets a nice chunk so no interest in reducing it.

If you drive an SUV, zero sympathy for you.

Proper windfall taxes for energy producers and suppliers should be in place.

My car is far from an SUV, but I am still mightily pissed off with yet another price rise!!

smashburger · 31/08/2023 22:17

@BlueThursday what is the Costco price just now? Or does it differ by location?

I was 143.9 for diesel yesterday and I think their regular petrol was 140.9
