If you drive a Skoda Octavia, is a 1 litre engine big enough?

Need to get a new (second hand) car due to ULEZ and I like the Octavia in terms of size and value.
Looking at petrol engines 4ish years old.
They seem to be mainly 1 litre engines, eg 1.0 TSI SE Technology.
Do you find that 1 litre engine is enough for what is a reasonably big car, ie bigger than the focus/Astra's, or is it a bit sluggish?
I haven't test driven one yet.
I'd rather stick to a one litre engine if possible as I'm sure bigger engines will get clobbered with more eco taxes in the coming years.
TIA

I'm sure it'll be fine for most domestic journeys in a city but for longer journeys on motorways or rural roads where you might have to overtake cars, does it have enough oomph?

I drive a 3 year old 1.5L Octavia and really would not like a less powerful engine. Mine is ok for sitting at 70 odd on motorways and overtaking tractors and slow drivers on the local A roads, and nipping out of roundabouts, but you can really feel the difference for example when it's carrying four people and a boot load of luggage.

@evilharpy Thanks. Is yours a petrol or diesel engine?

Mine is petrol.

It’s not a lot of power in a fairly large car. I can imagine it’s not especially pleasant 4-up with luggage on the motorway. You’re also having to work a small turbocharged engine harder than a larger one which is probably not great for fuel economy or longevity.

Not an Octavia, but we've got a six-year-old Fabia Estate 1.2 TSI petrol (89bhp) - the engine is surprisingly perky for its size, and fuel economy is good. I think the emissions are quite low too.
It's been plenty big enough for our family of four although we do use a roofbox for holidays.

It's a big car for a 1.0 engine. Skoda TSI technology is very good but I'm not convinced that its responsiveness would give you happiness when loaded with kids, luggage and you're going up a hill. We had a 1.4 TSI Octavia for 10 years and it was the very best car. Could cruise comfortably at 70 on the motorway and still with excellent responsiveness at that speed when loaded with all the gubbins that we appear to need to drag with us everywhere.
