Just reading an article in the Daily Fail and it got me thinking, how can no one been brought to justice for this? Was she really about to report on a big pedophile ring within the BBC?

There are many people who have never had justice.

Wendysfriend · 31/08/2023 11:26

I was just reading that about the documentary her brother is doing on Netflix, I see the man Barry is in it too. I remember hearing something about what you're saying but I can't remember the details, I'll need to have a Google, I can't believe I don't remember the details, I read everything at the time and over the years.

LakeTiticaca · 31/08/2023 11:31

There have been rumours swirling around for years. I remember rumours of an Eastern European hit man but can't remember any details about it.
Then the rumours that she was about to expose something very big.(Jimmy Savile?)
Rumours also swirled when Mike Smith died prematurely that he knew things and going to expose what he knew.

GigiAnnna · 31/08/2023 11:32

Emma Kenny covers the Jill Dando case on her YouTube channel and she goes quite in depth.

SisterAgatha · 31/08/2023 11:32

This was HIGHLY suspicious and I believe, a cover up. I doubt that anyone can be brought to justice without unveiling some kind of international criminal activity.

Loopylooni · 31/08/2023 12:14

It just seems odd tbh, if it happened now, they would find them

SisterAgatha · 31/08/2023 12:15

I don’t know, it may depend on which agents/country were involved, and how big they want to make it.

Planesmistakenforstars · 31/08/2023 12:23

She wasn't some in-depth investigative reporter holding special exclusive knowledge of a paedophile ring, so no that isn't why she was killed. Not to say there aren't paedophile rings, or that I don't respect what she did or the impact her death had. Just that she didn't have that type of job or that type of information. As to why it hasn't been solved, well lots of murders go unsolved. It's fairly likely that she was murdered by someone not known to her. Stranger murders are the most difficult ones to solve, so it's not that surprising.

SisterAgatha · 31/08/2023 12:27

No, hers was an assassination for sure. For what reason, who knows. Related to her job or personal life who can tell, but this was not a shooting like we see in the likes of Tottenham with gangs. It was professional.

This is what I've always thought too. I think it was a case of mistaken identity or she disturbed a burglar.

RhannionKPSS · 31/08/2023 12:28

She did work on Crimewatch, so speaking to the police was obviously part of her job, so it very possible that she was doing her own research. Put it this way, I think certainly wouldn’t surprise me if she was murdered by somebody who wanted to silence her because of what she was doing.

LetMeGoogleThat · 31/08/2023 12:34

Didn't the police decide early doors that it was Barry George, so focussed on securing his conviction over investigating?

loislovesstewie · 31/08/2023 12:53

The theory, even at the time, was that the person responsible had got to Heathrow and exited the country rapidly. I know that a lot of people who knew the area where she lived thought that whoever had committed the murder had done precisely that, only the Met thought differently. I don't think anyone will be arrested or charged now, they have long gone. and the whole sorry tale is another reason we should not bring back the death penalty.

LakeTiticaca · 31/08/2023 13:03

It must have been a professional hit but the question is why?
Why would a popular TV presenter be executed on her own doorstep?
I don't believe it was mistaken identity. It was meticulously planned.
The only thing Barry Georg was guilty of was being a loner with an obsession about Freddie Mercury. That is not a crime. He was as easy target for the police who were under pressure to convict someone for this shocking crime

LakeTiticaca · 31/08/2023 13:04

*same went for Colin Stagg who was completely innocent of the murder of Rachel Nickell

There is something rather fishy about how her fiancé at the time was brought into the inner circle of Royal physicians and has never voiced anything about her murder campaigned for justice.

Seriously? So people related to victims of high profile crimes can’t decide to grieve privately and progress in their career without being deemed “fishy”?

FictionalCharacter · 31/08/2023 13:15

I remember that so well, it was really shocking at the time. It was definitely a professional hit, the way in which she was pushed down and efficiently shot was textbook. A professional will be very good at getting away and will be protected by a network.

Nothing fishy about not campaigning. He was very likely told details by the police that were not made public, and knew that campaigning for justice (how?) would be futile because there was no chance of the perpetrators being found.

CanadianWinter · 31/08/2023 13:18

Well flip it the other way... if your partner was murdered and no-one convicted wouldn't you stop at nothing to find justice?

This is a really crass comment. You have no idea how you would behave if you were faced with what that man has been through. Have a little empathy.

What do you expect him to do for crying out loud? We have professionals who are supposed to catch criminals. I agree the Met were wholly incompetent , but how would a gynaecologist have any more success? Give the man a break.

FFS this has to one of the most ridiculous and awful comments I've read on here. Some people don't want to be in the public eye and like to live their life quietly. I remember at the time he was described as a highly sought after gynaecologist so nothing strange about his career progressing
