Just reading an article in the Daily Fail and it got me thinking, how can no one been brought to justice for this? Was she really about to report on a big pedophile ring within the BBC?

Well flip it the other way... if your partner was murdered and no-one convicted wouldn't you stop at nothing to find justice?

No, I imagine I'd be a shell.of my former self and probably want to try not to think about it as much as possible.

How the fuck can you possibly know how you'd feel if your partner was murdered?

So because someone acted in a way different to you it's fishy??

And if he did publicly raise awareness there would no doubt be others who would think that was a sign of guilt.

LakeTiticaca · 31/08/2023 14:47

At the time I wondered if one of his patients held a grudge against him and hired a hitman to kill his fiancée as revenge. A bit extreme I know but I'm sure the police would have looked at that angle

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/08/2023 14:49

I think it's more surprising that the jogger on Putney Bridge who nearly killed a woman by pushing into the path of a bus was never found, given the remarkably clear footage of it.

For Jill Dando there were no eye witnesses.

ohdannyboy · 31/08/2023 14:50

The BBC cover up sounds plausible - deffo a hit man - who we will never find - it's been too long sadly

grass321 · 31/08/2023 14:55

I don't buy the research angle. She was a tv presenter, she was unlikely to be wading through boxes of police files.

I thought of her last week as I was walking down residential streets in Fulham. It still seems such as odd crime.

There are many people who have never had justice.

Yes there are, so thank you for pointing out the obvious but this is about Jill Dando.

Yes I was just thinking about the "Putney Pusher" the other day... I cannot believe he has not been caught..

Loopylooni · 31/08/2023 15:33

Wasnt the Putney Pusher protected under some sort of diplomatic code?

Would you, if you were told that the murderer had almost certainly disappeared off into middle Europe somewhere? Where exactly would you begin?

Give me strength, you've been watching too many itv dramas.

This is what I've always thought too. I think it was a case of mistaken identity or she disturbed a burglar.

Don’t think she could have disturbed a burglar. She was seen by a man driving past ( who didn’t know who she was) stood in her doorstep taking to a man he described as dark hair, olive skinned, Mediterranean looking. She was shot seconds later. Driver realised what he’d seen when he saw the news on TV that evening.

MrsDBaddiel · 31/08/2023 16:01

One of the reasons Barry George was charged with the crime was an eyewitness told police they saw a man with a strong resemblance to the comedian Bob Mills wearing a camel coat in the street at the time of the attack. BG looked a lot like Bob Mills back then.

maddiemookins16mum · 31/08/2023 16:13

I thought about her this morning, I was listening to the radio and they played a TV soundtrack (it was Holiday!). I spent 4 days with her and a TV crew back in the 90s when she came out to film in the resort I managed for a holiday company. She was so beautiful and very funny.

Not that I'm aware of. Only recall the Harry Dunn case in recent years where the wife of a diplomat was "protected" and she flew back to the US

milveycrohn · 31/08/2023 16:34

I think there is more chance today of this type of crime being solved as there is more CCTV around generally, and more people have 'Ring' style doorbells (those with cameras). These things were very rare in those days.
I think if this happened today, then the police would be asking all the neighbours to check their footage, etc, and they would then be able to work backwards. Of course, it does not mean the case would be solved, but there would be more of a chance.
The second thing is that no one can find any kind of motive. JD had a partner, but I don't think they lived together, and they did not have any children together, so no motive there. He was at work at the time, I believe.

Goldcircle · 31/08/2023 16:42

Shocking really.

I think it’s very likely that if your partner was murdered by the head of some crime ring or other nefarious group, the best thing to do IS keep quiet or find yourself also at the top of a hit list.

Whether it was retribution for something on Crimewatch or that she had uncovered something or even just a stalker, this was not a burglary. This was targeted.

I think now there is talk that it wasn’t a professional hit due to the manner of the bullet being left behind, but Russia left polonium behind so I don’t think that’s any kind of sign it’s not an ordered kill.

SisterAgatha · 31/08/2023 16:47

@Simonlebonbon I’m also not a David Icke type either but I think sometimes he’s on to something and then undermines himself by talking about lizards. I think you are probably correct in at least some version of the events here.

Simonlebonbon · 31/08/2023 17:02

@SisterAgatha agreed, often he seems to say something that sounds truthful but he laces it with fantasy.

One of the most interesting podcasts I've ever listened too was ex beeb journo Anna brees on the james English podcast.

Plenty of people have tried to uncover their childhood abuse from the care system including a man who believes his younger down syndrome brother was murdered during a sexual attack on him during his childhood, but they often crusade to the point of seeming easy to discredit.

Journalist Sonia Poulton also has done a few YouTube docs, but she is apart of the David icke/shaun attwood brigade and I then struggle to take alot of it seriously as they're very ego focused as opposed to journalistic. (If that's a word!)

I think when we consider the back story to these horrific crimes against looked after children, nobody of those times expected the Internet and for a new wave of media to be available for those to want to expose these institutions.

I'd love truth and justice and legacy for those victims and I personally include Jill in that, however I think it's too easy to accuse people of being crazy/seeking money/and the power of abusers runs too deep.

There is still information on PIE and a few of Ted heaths alleged victims have all come forward with similar stories, to no avail.

These were the most vulnerable children in society and their treatment was worse than I've words for.

Cherryana · 31/08/2023 17:22

I thought Jill Dando was lovely and I am glad we are talking about her still.

It was shocking and still makes me feel sad.

JaneyGee · 31/08/2023 17:53

I've always thought it was so, so strange. She was so sweet-natured – literally the last person you'd expect to see gunned down.

adriftabroad · 31/08/2023 18:15

I lived in the street adjacent at the time. It was so horrible and sad and still is. I remember it vividly.

I firmly believe it was a hit man. Wierd how the police focussed on BG. He was a known loner/wierdo/harmless person from some mansion bock a fair way away.

It was early morning I think?

Thewrongdress · 31/08/2023 18:21

I wouldn't trust the Met police or the BBC at all.
I am sure it was a professional assassin, but who or why, no idea.
