Letby: Inquiry given powers to compel witnesses to give evidence www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66597122 here
I'm a bit uncomfortable with this. This inquiry should always be of the level to compel testimony; yes, of course- but it initially wasn't, but now is, due basically to Public Opinion.
I'm unhappy about the need for Public Opinion to sway political decision making. I know there have been many, including outrage turning an 'x' year sentence into much longer; but I'm thinking of Isla Bryson; how it took PO to prevent a (male) rapist to do his time in a women's prison.
And now, PO is the thing that is forcing those in the line of command in this case to testify.
What is wrong with us?
I sort of know. I recall years ago someone saying of Boris, 'he waits to see in which direction the mob are heading then jumps in front'. Not that I consider those correctly demanding a proper inquiry of being 'a mob', I hasten to add. Just PO altering the course of what should have been a carefully balanced, and considered legal position.
