How long have you gone without a shower/bath?

Inthebathagain · 30/08/2023 09:43

I normally bath/shower every day, but due to a number of unexpected matters cropping up, I haven't had one since Saturday.

Brushed my teeth daily. Quick face cleanse on a couple of those days.

I don't feel as dirty or smelly as I thought I would.

What's the longest you have you gone between showers/baths?

How do those of you with non showering husbands manage sex?

BodegaSushi · 30/08/2023 12:24

Two minute showers every day, ten minute shower once a week when I wash my hair but I turn the water off in between.

I've just informed the planet, your badge is in the post

Do you not sweat?! Genuine question. I honestly can't imagine how grubby I'd be if I didn't have a shower for a week. My PIL only shower every 2-3 days and you can tell, frankly.

I don't wash my hair every time I shower.

@lightinthebox

do you not exercise?

Well, most people think they don't. The amount of smelly people on the train in the mornings...that tells a different story.

...so that's why I get a seat all to myself?

Result!

(Really, no, I don't stink when I wake up. I prefer to shower or bathe before bed as it saves time first thing. You may stink on waking - perhaps it's some biochemical problem?)

ElEmEnOhPee · 30/08/2023 12:27

Probably between 10 - 14 days when at rock bottom with my mental health, thankfully years ago now.

BodegaSushi · 30/08/2023 12:28

The number of posts there are on MN about shower habits makes me think someone has a fetish for the unwashed tbh

Surely there are other things to talk about

JudyJulie · 30/08/2023 12:29

10 days when I had flu. Not pleasant.

Hmmm don't open that can of worms. It's all ewww to me tbh. I can't see why a person should go days without showering. I've seen a few MH one's. I can understand that.

In MN world people can allegedly tell when and how frequently their fellow commuters/ work colleagues/postmen/school mums/the cashier at Tesco metro shower or whether they've only had one shower a day or a wash.

In RL I imagine hardly anyone knows or cares!

GreyCarpet · 30/08/2023 12:32

4-5 days at festivals. Don't mind the loos but I refuse to use festival showers!

I crimp my hair before I go so it doesn't need washing and then I just leave it all.

I probably smell by the end of it but so does everyone else so 🤷🏻‍♀️ (except my partner who showers every day no matter what!)

lightinthebox · 30/08/2023 12:33

@lightinthebox

I strength train and do cardio classes. I wear clean clothes and wear deodorant, I just find it’s not necessary. But that’s my preference and fully understand others would struggle.

GrannyGoggins · 30/08/2023 12:34

About 6 weeks. Had washes each day though with a full body lather type thing. Still washed my hair over the bath. Due to depression and a lot of widespread pain. The thought of showering every day makes me want to crawl into bed and never move again.

SirenSays · 30/08/2023 12:40

Oh absolutely ages lol. With festivals, hiking, camping, campervanning... I think it's lucky I ever got clean again 😂
That first solar shower after a very long hike is heavenly!

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 30/08/2023 12:41

2 weeks!
We were completely snowed in and the water was frozen. We had to defrost snow on the Aga to boil for drinks and have a quick wash.
Luckily we weren't able to go anywhere because of the amount of snow!!!

I go for daily, also once a week bath. However, in general, don’t think I’ve noticed many people who smell when commuting. I also think that frequent showers are great but won’t cure someone who does have BO. Teenagers, women with menopause are 2 examples of those who might be a bit whiffy for other reasons. I also wonder if excessive washing might promote sweat like excessive shaving promotes hair growth.

Qilin · 30/08/2023 12:45

Normally everyday, including washing my hair.
I have gone the odd missed day over the years, but not often as I just end up feeling horrible.

Even when quite poorly I normally get out of bed and have a quick shower, then put clean PJs on before going back to bed.

SuperiorM · 30/08/2023 12:46

Re daily hair washing - it’s generally not recommended. Hard to avoid when it’s hot and one has thick hair though

Wexone · 30/08/2023 12:46

One week - but was in hospital and couldn't move with tubes etc, Had to be held in shower when came home, we then switched to baths as it was easier
I don't (Shock horror) shower every day, i don't exercise much apart from walking dogs work from home so don't see anyone plus have exzema so have to be careful. I have a batch more than shower, two or three times a week , find it a great way to relax and ease aches and pains, If have had areal busy day scrubbing house etc might have a quick shower and change clothes in eve . I only wash my hair once a week now too, trained it over lockdowns
@Saschka when having a shower and dont want my hair to get wet, i wear a shower cap, hair is tucked up into it and doesn't get wet

Wexone · 30/08/2023 12:48

@SuperiorM thickest hair ever here, wash once a week now, even before i trained it only washed it every three days roughly. even on summer hols

shoeawsome · 30/08/2023 12:49

About 2 weeks when I had an accident & a skin graft!

I did was my hair in the sink though! It was pretty grim & I'm normally abit of a shower dodger!

MissyMoooooo · 30/08/2023 12:50

The longest was a week when I was about 12-13. I was ill at the time.

I shower everyday and wash my hair every 2-3 days. Face is washed everyday, and my skincare routine is every night. I get anxious if I’m not squeaky clean though, like full blown panic and discomfort.

Even now, as an adult, illness doesn’t stop me from showering. It might stop me from eating, sleeping, etc but I’ll be damned if I don’t manage a shower 😂😂

MissyMoooooo · 30/08/2023 12:53

Shoxfordian · 30/08/2023 09:51

Unless I’m really unwell and can’t get out of bed then every day I shower and wash my hair

We had guests recently who didn’t shower for 3 days: disgusting

Nope, couldn’t cope with 3 days 🙈
Do you wash your hair everyday? I thought that was unhealthy for it, so I tried extending it to 2-3 days, but by day 2, it’s greasy so I think I’ll switch to everyday

IncompleteSenten · 30/08/2023 12:54

A couple of months when my depression was at its worst and I was suicidal.

MissyMoooooo · 30/08/2023 12:56

Robbiesraft · 30/08/2023 10:43

3 days. We stayed at a 'friends' house and I'm sure they were listening when we were in the bathroom and DP caught them feeling how wet our towels were. Lots of mutterings from them too about how disgusting we were when we left. The thing is the bathroom was rank. Weirdos.

…. I need more of this story 😂😂😂

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/08/2023 12:56

I haven't had a bath since Christmas Eve.. when I got stuck for 21/2 hours!
I have CP and Arthritis in my knee
Shower over bath so not an option
Waiting for a walk in shower under the Disabled facilities grant, so making do with strip washes
