Of course it's a faff. Anyone who disagrees likes cooking long, complicated dishes or uses sauces in jars - like the poster yesterday who makes hers with a "red" sauce and a "white" sauce from Lidl.

That's assembling a dish, not cooking it. I see from my FB and TikTok reels that pop up uninvited on FB that assembling food is what many in the USA cheerfully describe as home cooking.

And yes I am a snob about that technicality.

I layer up the second one in the biggest size of tuppaware from Tesco, which fits really well, although it does take up most of the freezer drawer.

Those of you who freeze it, what do you put into? I only have one lasagne dish and don't want it in the freezer for weeks lol

I have a few large sized ones of these

Layer the lasagnes up in them, put the lids on to freeze, take the lid off to reheat. Mine have red lids, and I got them from Tesco about 15 years ago using some vouchers in one of their promotions! Really, really useful.

Cook & Store Glass Rectangular Dish High resistance with lid

Baked dishes to cook and store, for now or for later with this rectangular dish. When cooking, we sometimes make more than expected. And it is increasingly important not to waste left over food. Pyrex® has created COOK&STORE, a range of borosilicate gl...

Yes!! After a friend reliably told me how easy it was, I cooked my first ever lasagne this week. It wasn't difficult but by the time I'd peeled and chopped tomatoes, made a white sauce etc it did take a while and made me wonder if he is taking shortcuts like jars of sauce or tinned tomatoes!

It was delicious though!

Agreed. It’s lovely though. I sometimes make one as a substitute for roast dinner.

You have inspired me to make a lasagne this Sunday 😋

anunlikelyseahorse · 30/08/2023 18:31

Yep, too many saucepans... I make a wicked stove top lasagneGrin

Ragwort · 30/08/2023 19:27

Why are people using so many saucepans? I fry off the veg ... add the minced beef ... let it simmer. Make the white sauce. Two saucepans.
Obviously for sure those who make their own pasta or cook for 80 including vegan and vegetarian versions it is a faff ... but presumably cooking for 80 people is always going to be a faff?

Never have made lasagne but have made something similar from my Delia Smith cookery course cook book which I use as a guideline.
Mix a ragu with cooked penne pasta and I use those fresh cheese sauces to speed things up.
Cover in grated cheese cheddar and mozzarella and put in oven

BaaCode · 30/08/2023 19:59

I've always bought the Lidl family sized ones. I freeze them then cut them into portions before putting back into the freezer.
I once made a lasagna and swore never again. What a faff.
