Forgetful if slightly out of my routine, anyone else?

I feel so stupid when this happens to me.
Yesterday I took my coat and bag to work, I usually only take my bag.
When I went to leave I picked my coat up, and my colleague said "who's bag is this?" (I didn't see the bag, just responded 'not mine' when she asked)

We then left and as we locked up I said "oh I forgot my bag!" And she was like "so it was yours then..."

I just feel so stupid. Why do I do things like that?
I'm in my late 30's. People have previously described me as scatty.

I have always been like this, if I do something slightly different I forget something else. I feel really stupid and embarrassed!

Seeing as you always take your bag, surprised that this was the item you forgot tbh!

but sounds generally quite normal

Do you live alone?

Blank232 · 30/08/2023 07:35

@Layinwait I know! I was keen to take my coat as my bank card was in there, and my phone battery had run out, plus it was raining. I think I was so focused on that instead.

I live with my husband and 3 kids!

And how do you fare with all the organisation with 3 kids?

Blank232 · 30/08/2023 07:48

I don't want to let them down so I have a tonne of reminders on Alexa and my phone 😅

So if only a bit scatty every now and then with yourself but you otherwise manage running a home and 3 kids… I wouldn’t worry!

Blank232 · 30/08/2023 07:52

If it wasn't for reminders I would forget everything.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me :)

I’m like this too. I would definitely forget my own head if it wasn’t screwed on. I have a reminder on Alexa to do the school run which DH thinks is hilarious. I also keep keys, purse etc in the same bag at all times never to be removed indoors or they mysteriously vanish. I have 3 kids too and without our routine all hell would break loose!

I think it's fairly normal. I read once that people who accidentally leave their kids in the car have usually had their morning routine broken in some way. Ie they usually do nursery drop off then drive to work but that morning they had to stop for petrol then drove straight to work from the petrol station. I think it's to do with how your memory works.
