Dd was on the 2nd floor taking a shower. My ground floor toilet started making odd sounds and I could hear strange sounds from outside as well. I checked the toilet and the water was trying to rise . I told dd to get out if shower I flushed toilet on ground floor to see what would happen. And what went half way up then slowly back down. O googled and it said this

If your toilet is overflowing when you take a shower, there is an obstruction located between the toilet and the main sewer line. This is causing the water from the shower to back up and overflow at the first drain it reaches, which happens to be your toilet.

So am I going to get shit in my house? I'd ot worth trying sink unblocker in all the drains, toilets sinks etc .

I am a council tenant so I can call them. I'm just not sure how long they will take any wounder if I cam do anything to stop shit coming in my house in the mean time

Call them as an emergency. If you're drains are connected to other people's then it could happen without you using the shower. This happened to my sister and her downstairs toilet and kitchen were covered in foul water. Unfortunately, there is no way of stopping it, apart from calling an emergency engineer.

Blocked sewer is an emergency, call all relevant authorities/ companies.
you can also lift the cover outside the house, hefty screwdriver or crowbar, and see if anything is flowing by, if not, there’s a blockage further up.

I need to unscrew it. And gey help to lift it in morning. Can't do it on my own. And yes will call them first thing.
