Lost my job. What do i tell the next employer?

I've been in this company over a year. I hated it and did not cope well at all, was making no progress. Basically i sucked at it and there was a mutual dislike with the manager. I was really fed up and really needed to go, but was reluctant to quit. Now they've fired me.
Obviously, I need another job.
What do i tell my next employer?
I know this looks bad and i'm not sure if i can get a reference.

As little as possible.

The job wasn’t what you thought it would be and you decided to move on.

Now a days most references just confirm star and end dates.

it wasn't a good fit and you want to find more challenging work? A mismatch of expectations or a relocation.

Avoid talking about it, nothing negative and keep everything light.
