Just looking at school bags for Juniors on next and all the ones my son like are they hype ones but just want to be sure it's not something that's no longer in and he'd get teased about?

I don't think 7year olds care!?

BananaSlug · 29/08/2023 17:54

Teased ?! 🤣

TropicalTrama · 29/08/2023 17:57

I don’t think many (any?) 7YOs are into brands like that are they? I could only imagine teasing if it was obviously babyish character backpack like Paw Patrol or something…

minipie · 29/08/2023 17:57

My 8 yo has one and loves it as do several of her friends

If it’s “out” nobody has told them 🤷‍♀️

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 29/08/2023 18:02

My 6 year old chose one for her school backpack last week.

As said previously, I don't think they care at all about branding at that age.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 29/08/2023 18:02

Ds7 doesn’t care neither does ds13! I just get ds7 the one that looks least like he’ll manage to break it and from experience of ds13 it certainly isn’t hype! Both mine have outdoors branded backpacks.

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 29/08/2023 18:03

They're still popular with 7 year olds and tweens in our area. Not silly to check though! Most kids here don't really judge brands, but they're aware of the big ones (e.g. Smiggle) and some kids with older siblings already have more awareness of cool and uncool trends.

GrandHighPoohbah · 29/08/2023 18:06

I would say Hype is more tween/early teen, so 10-13 age range. I don't think a seven year old would care really.

LumpyJumpy · 29/08/2023 18:08

Smiggle/ hype and the sports brands appear to be the most popular at DC's primary.

Hype for the older years maybe.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 29/08/2023 18:08

My 7 year old picked one last week because she liked the colours. She couldn’t care less about the brand.

TootenCarMoon · 29/08/2023 18:20

I work in Juniors and I’ve never heard any of the 7 yr olds comment on other’s bags. They honestly don’t care.

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 29/08/2023 18:28

I'm sure, but schools and classes are different, so it’s not a bad thing to ask around.

BadBarry · 29/08/2023 18:55

Ah Glad to hear that it's not 'uncool'!
Thank you for the reassurance Smile
