Do you ever see kids playing on the rock climbing walls at the playground?

We have a fair amount of parks with climbing frames that have rock climbing holds on them. Yet, in all the millions of visits to playgrounds, I've never seen kids playing on them.

Do they do it round your way?

I agree, I have never seen anyone playing on them.

InterFactual · 29/08/2023 16:15

My kids love them but rarely use them because little pricks stick chewing gum inside the hand holds. Absolutely gross.

Only mine and my nephews. Most don't round here as scare stories went round the school about people putting knives and needles in and a child having their hand cut off.

No idea where the fuck it came from because it's never happened.

Yes. They have them going up to the massive climbing frame in the local shopping centre. They have them in some school playgrounds though and have never, ever seen a child use them.

RejectedAgainandAgain · 29/08/2023 17:06

Yes, DD and her friends have always played on those.

Chikoletta · 29/08/2023 17:09

Yes kid were using them today.

voxnihili · 29/08/2023 17:10

Yes my DD always uses them. Sadly whilst wearing her school shoes usually …

BelindaBears · 29/08/2023 17:12

I’ve been in the playground today and my DD was climbing them, along with her little friends although none of them were really big enough to do it without parental help. She always makes a beeline for them though.

Ds7 loves them but he isn’t phased by chewing gum or general filth. Watching him I feel slightly queasy. On the other hand ds13 wouldn’t go within two miles of one but he also has a disability that would prevent him.

Yes, our local kid's playpark has several and I see the littles on them pretty often.

Kfjsjdbd · 29/08/2023 17:23

Yes, even though she broke her arm falling off them once. She loves to climb.

BreehyHinnyBrinnyHoohyHah · 29/08/2023 17:27

Yes, but I live in Cumbria and it's pretty normal for kids to spend their weekends at a climbing wall or doing actual rock climbing.

Miriam101 · 29/08/2023 17:29

Yep, for sure, the one in our local playground regularly has loads of kids on it

MargaretThursday · 29/08/2023 17:44

My dc used to love them. Only thing was that they always thought they could have made them a bit more adventurous.
Lots of children on the ones near me.

WeWereInParis · 29/08/2023 17:59

4 year old DD loves them.

mindutopia · 29/08/2023 18:47

Yes, and mine do, but they do climb and we live in a place where there is lots of rock climbing. Maybe some kids don’t know what to do with them?

Squirrel28 · 29/08/2023 19:11

I used to work in an office with a view of a park where there was a climbing wall that always seemed to have about 20 kids on it. I don’t know if that was local schools using it for stealth PE though. (It was London, so seems unlikely they were ALL from climbing families.)
