Is anyone else sitting at home after having their holiday cancelled today?
We haven’t had a ‘proper’ holiday in 6 years and we’re so looking forward to going away. Waited all day at the airport just to be cancelled just after the plane that was supposed to take us landed. So disappointed.
Well done to everyone who managed today with young kids. All the families around us coped so well.

We got back from Greece yesterday. Our flights home were cancelled. Hotel had no spare rooms.
Paid for room in neighbouring hotel for the night and spent all day there without a room.
Got flight that evening to Dublin.
Stayed there for 11 hours then flew back to Heathrow.
Took nearly 3 days to get home and spent hundreds of pounds.
Hoping the travel insurance will cover all these expenses.
On The Beach TA were Not Contactable for 24 hours.
We are done in

Wow! Really feeling for you. Hope you can rest now you’re home.

I'm currently 8 hours into my ~20 hour trip home that should have flown into Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon. Easyjet (having been nowhere at the airport or contactable!) emailed at 2200 last night, about 36 hours after my cancelled flight to advise of 'some' increased capacity. Far too little too late.

It's a bit much for the airlines to say they are 'back to normal'. Whilst flights may now be operating as scheduled they have left people stranded, many still trying to find slots to get home.

We arrived home after midnight last night over 48 hours late. All flights and accommodations arranged by ourselves with no help from Ryanair. They only fly twice a week to our destination so we had no chance to get on one of their scheduled flights home without waiting for more than a week.

I feel very lucky considering. We arrived with only a slight delay. It seemed quite organised at Stansted but the staff looked frazzled after a hard few days.

For those who were stranded by cancelled flights at the end of August, how are you getting on with making a claim for extra hotel and travel expenses. We are having a nightmare with Ryanair and have only just managed to find a web page to input the claim which actually works.

Kept receipts for the Real Greek meal we had and hotel (Hilton) plus water. Breakfast was included in hotel and filed a claim with British Airways the day after we got home. Uploaded receipts to the claim.

They paid up and we got the money back, all of it, last week. So, all in all, not too bad. No experience of other airlines, but am assuming there must be a webpage. I would have all dates / flight numbers / booking reference ready and provide a factual account.

Look up how long it takes for them to respond according to their policies and then simply take it to either the arbitrator or MCOL (money claim online £35 fee which is returned if successful - and you will be for duty of care) when they don't bother.

I claimed for extra food for the few hours delay we had and British Airways compensated within about two days. It was only about £30 but still, good that it was easy and quick.
