I just watched the first part of the trial I think it was in 2022 and I just feel so sad about it all. the bodies have never been found. The poor wee boy murdered at 3 yrs old.

Also, they convicted McDowell but it seems very light on evidence that I'm not sure I'd have reached the guilty verdict if I'd been on the jury. I get the feeling the police just wanted to shut down the whole thing for good :/

Wee Andrew looked absolutely gorgeous :( so sad for their family.

I watched this and finished it this morning!! I love these kind of things things to watch!!!!

im not 100% sure they made the right decision I’m still thinking I wouldn’t be able to reach a guilty on the verdict.

just when they mentioned about his boot of the car he wanted a new one.

also his wife speaking in court seemed very offish to me and quite aggressive

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/08/2023 23:03

I missed the wife but my husband told me she was very aggressive and stand-offish. Why would she be like that?

I read he had set light to the boot of his car - ok that is super dodgy. But still, not sure it's enough to go on 🤔

She was certainly aggressive! I don’t quite understand why she would be unless she knew about it. But I don’t think there was enough evidence really to say that he did commit this.

I still don’t understand why they haven’t been found surely they should dig up the entire place we’re her car and things were burned as some witnesses said they seen someone walking down the road with a pram. Just doesn’t seem to add up with me or make a lot of sense but it was very interesting I love watching these kind of things 😂😂

Very good documentary series . So well made..
So sad to see her older son upset .
I agree I think I couldn't have voted guilty without reasonable doubt.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/08/2023 23:13

I do like to watch them but after I do, I regret it as it affects me for so long afterwards.
It just came on as me and DH were chatting and we became Interested in it.

I also read about another suspect who flew off to US to hide until the case became cold. And the roadworker saying a section of ground had been dug up.
So 2 maybe 3 suspects!
I just hope it was quick for them

Where can I watch this please?

Lovelyjubbbly · 28/08/2023 23:31

Bbc Iplayer! It’s on @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

just crazy how normal people of the public can decide if your guilty or not in this world! Still don’t think that’s the way it should be! I’ve never been asked to do jury duty but I would be very anxious has anyone ever done a big court case and been in the jury!
I live in Scotland 😊

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/08/2023 23:42

Thanks!

forgotmyusername1 · 28/08/2023 23:53

The wife pretty much killed his original alibi. She said he was home at 8:30 but the film the kids were watching didn't finish until much later and her original statement said he came home after the film was finished and the kids had gone to bed.

pepino · 29/08/2023 08:04

I know someone who has been a bit obsessed with finding the bodies. He even offered to pay to drain a quarry where they thought the bodies might be. Don't know what ever came of that though.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/08/2023 20:42

Yes I imagine they are under there.

The quarry was drained.

I just feel so sorry for the boy :(

I think he did it. The pathetic lies about booking a restaurant then cancelling it, the lies he told in the hotel about going out with his wife? He was obviously establishing an alibi.
Needing to replace the floor on his car. Very strange
I also think his wife knows a lot more than she is letting on, she lied to alibi him and dragged him out of the police station when he went their off his own back, probably to confess.
It even crossed my mind that his wife was involved. She came across as a bloody awful person, they both did.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2023 21:43

He didn't even bat an eyelid when he was sentenced, did he?

AuntieDolly · 31/08/2023 21:47

Quite 🙄

BringMeTea · 31/08/2023 22:46

Lol at spoilers angry face. Grin I think he is certainly guilty.

DoAhhDiddy · 31/08/2023 23:22

I found it very sad too. I wasn't convinced that id convict based on evidence shown but I googled the case afterwards and saw that he'd offered someone else money to kill them both. His wife was deffo aware. Horrid that he got away with it for so long and then only ended up in prison for 5months.

deeahgwitch · 10/08/2024 00:51

I watched the first part of the court case shown recently.
On the basis of that first part I couldn't as a jury member find him guilty.
I thought his wife didn't come across well.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the BBC Iplayer and didn't see the second part.

deeahgwitch · 22/08/2024 16:19

I saw the second part last night.
It was not a unanimous verdict.
Replacing the floor of the boot of the Volvo was very suspicious.
Why didn't the police take swabs from his Volvo ?
Who was the Mexican moustache man ?
Why wasn't he found ?
Surely someone would know who he was and why he was in Renee's company.
Most witnesses said the weather was awful but one witness, a local resident insisted it was ok.
Did I hear the show correctly that Renee's husband was having an affair too.
What happened him ?
Did he remarry ?
What happened to the older son ?
He was shown in the programme.
Devastating for him to lose his Mum and wee brother.
Where did you read of the other 2 suspects @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy ?
