Luggage and back injury

I am trying to find the best combo of luggage items for travelling bearing in mind I have a really bad back. I am looking for each product to be as light as possible and I am unsure if to go with a duffel bag on wheels or a traditional style case. I am happy to stretch to Samsonite if this proves to be the best option. I travel a lot in the UK. It would be helpful if the combo would be good for air travel, too, bearing in mind cases get thrown around, but not essential, as I am happy to have a separate set up for this if necessary.
I injured myself lifting a traditional style suitcase ending up with herniated discs in my lower spine hence the need to find something more practical. I was looking at a case/duffel bag with a smaller backpack of some kind. TIA.

Bumping this thread, hoping for suggestions.

galliton, I am looking at luggage options, for very similar reasons..
Did you find any good options?

Eagle creek, Osprey seem to have options that work, but are super expensive!
