Anyone just fancy a chat.....in chat?

Hello 👋

Just wondered if anyone else fancied a chat and/or general moan?

My day has not gone to plan. Was looking forward to a nice, relaxing Bank Holiday in the garden with a BBQ, possible long walk with the dogs and wander down the local, but dd has come home from her dad's with a vomiting bug 🤢 and is in bed, so doesn't feel right having a BBQ without her.

I know this doesn't sound like a big deal and it isn't really, but it's just this was supposed to be a really chilled out day, before we get cracking with securing a place at sixth form or college for dd next week. I suspect most of the week will be taken up with travelling around, preparing for interviews etc and will be full on and stressful, no doubt, so it's just a shame today hasn't gone to plan. She could have really done with it, as could I!

Anyway, that's what's going on here. How about you?

Sorry to hear all of that. We too are trying to secure a college place, but just for 'y14' to do functional skills. We haven't been able to sort things earlier as waiting for the LA to give the go ahead for it to be covered under her EHCP.

Anyway, today we have driven to the coast around 40mins away and spent a lot of money on a snake setup for DD. Only waved briefly at the sea (lots of sailing boats out). Snake reserved but needs somewhere to live first!

Hullo, sorry to hear that and hope she feels better soon. Fingers crossed that you avoid catching it.

I’m having a productive but lonely day WFH, freelance. Feel like vegging out to something mindless on Netflix!

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 14:40

Vomiting bugs are the worst! I always worry I'm next!

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 14:41

I've cleared out 2 kitchen cupboards and cut the grass

Trying to keep it low key as I'm back on night shifts from tonight so switching over into 'night mode'

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 14:42

@TeenDivided ah, that must be a frustrating wait. Hope you get the answer you want. Good luck with the snake! 😂

@CountyMounty thanks. I am actually starting to feel a little peeky 😬 Glad your day feels productive at least. Netflix later maybe?..

What's a snake set up ? Is that a typo - sooo curious what you're up to with a real snake ?

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 14:45

@OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia Yes. Starting to feel as though I will be 😒

Good luck with switching over to night mode! Do you find it difficult to go from one to the other?

OP posts:
OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 14:48

I find it difficult to switch back to day mode. So end up doing another set of nights! We do 7 shifts of 11 hours. It's harder in winter....going to work in the dark, getting up in the dark!

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 28/08/2023 14:49

DH is back at work after 2 weeks off, I've got another week off with DD until we're both back to work and school.
I was hoping to get out and do something but DD has decided she wants a lazy day 🙄 so I'm pottering around listening to the radio and scrolling on MN.

Buying a real live 3ft banana royal python (blotchy yellow with little black spots, quite pretty really). By 'setup' I mean the tank, and heater, uv light, thermostat, water bowl, hides etc etc.
DD studied animal care at college.
We have a pre-snake agreement that she does everything for it. I don't fancy feeding it dead rats...

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 15:17

@OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia I can only imagine! Do you enjoy your work, aside from that?

@CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease I hope your last week off is a good one and doesn't go too quickly. Sometimes a potter and a scroll is nice, but sounds like you're in the same boat as me and wanting to get out and do something!

TeenDivided · 28/08/2023 15:22

@Casheeeeww Has your DD enjoyed her long summer break? My DD has been relaxing combined with odd days work experience.

@OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia I really don't like the idea of shift working - I need my sleep!

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 15:26

@TeenDivided yes, thanks - she has. Been trying to keep her busy and distracted, whilst waiting for GCSE results (which turned out to be a little disappointing for her, but we're still hugely proud) so we went away a lot and tried to keep the diary full.

Is she off to sixth form next? A levels ?

Elderflower14 · 28/08/2023 15:28

Afternoon... We've had family here..... Also this morning I did some cooking... Peeled and cooked some Bramleys...made a cheese sauce and cooked some macaroni so we can have it for dinner... I made Paddington Tart the other day with the dregs of two marmalade jars from the fridge!! Will have that with custard for pudding.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 15:28

@TeenDivided the sleep thing doesn't bother me too much. If I'm on a busy wing I'm happy as I'm running around for most of the night, no time to be tired. Always something to do

BCBird · 28/08/2023 15:29

Hope your daughter picks up soon and u manage to avoid it OP.i prepared one lesson, done some washing and am now contemplating doing some tidying. Always choose to stay in bank holidays- can't be bothered with the traffic

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 15:33

@OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia well this is the thing, we're not 100% sure. It's all a little up I'm the air. It's probably more likely she goes to college to study, which she's quite happy with, but A Levels at her current school was her first choice, but is now unfortunately out of the equation. There may be a chance she can take A Levels somewhere else, but that depends on a paper review.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 15:36

What does she want to do/be op?

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 15:37

@Elderflower14 you've introduced me to something new! Paddington tart sounds fantastic! 😍

@BCBird thank you 🤞 Yeah, I don't usually go too far on bank holidays. That's why the local pub sounded appealing. Oh well. Probably good for the liver, which has been a little hammered over the past few weeks 😬

TeenDivided · 28/08/2023 15:38

My eldest did a L3 BTEC, and youngest has done L1 City&Guilds.
Sometimes the BTEC/T-Level way of working suits students better than A levels.

But sometimes schools have stupidly high barriers to doing A levels so that 2 years later they can boast about how good their A level results are.

Hope you/she find something suitable.

Casheeeeww · 28/08/2023 15:42

@OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia she's very arty and got a 7 in that. She also loves English (language) and was a couple of marks off a 7 in that too, plus a distinction. Her struggle is with maths, which she didn't pass and that's the issue with joining sixth form. Seems so harsh when she has high grades in most other subjects and more importantly, the subjects she wants to take 🙄 Career wise, she's not 100%, but it definitely needs to be something creative.

We were having a bbq day too and got the inflatable pool out for the kids.
Well first of all it wasn't even that hot, kind of cloudy but oh well we persevered. Kids soon got bored of the pool so dried off and came inside. 2yo then decided to get back into pool In his dry clothes 🫠
Meanwhile DH is trying to light disposable BBQs (I know they're rubbish) which weren't lighting or staying lit. I went out to co-op for firelighters. They lit properly but then withered out again quickly. So! I air fryed the food instead. Kids had super noodles and cheese sandwiches cos they couldn't wait any longer, soo it ended up being just me & DH in the garden on our own with our air fryer sausage and burger 😂 and a pool all inflated with water in for about 30 mins use. Worth it? Probably not tbh 🤣

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 28/08/2023 15:48

Maths let me down too, and my kids!
Hopefully she will get a place on a good course that she fits with
