Please help me. Hair dye disaster.

Please can anyone give me some advice. I’ve been to the hairdresser today and had some colour put in, and it’s a nightmare. It was supposed to be a subtle bit of strawberry blonde warmth, but it is absolutely orange. Like Annie Lennox in the 80s. Have been to that salon before but not that stylist. It clearly wasn’t supposed to look like this, I could tell the hairdresser was horrified as well. He’s fitting me back in at the end of the day to try and correct it, but realistically what can he do? Will it look worse?

What should I ask him to do? Try and get it blonder, or darker? Please, any advice, especially from hairdressers would be really appreciated.

Are you able to post an anonymous photo so we can help you? Sorry to hear of your experience.

JonjoMonjo21 · 28/08/2023 14:03

hairdresser here, did he prelighten it? It sounds like it hasn’t lifted properly. He could put a darker colour through and try and blend it and tone it. It’s hard to know what he’s done to help. Did he foil it or was it an all over colour?

Sundaybaby · 28/08/2023 14:04

Hopefully he can advise and alter it to your liking. When I’ve had a disaster with boxed dyes, I’ve washed my hair (repeatedly) with Head and Shoulders to fade the mistake.
🤞for you.

Oh no! Are you in the UK? I'm surprised they are open on a bank holiday! Is the hair dresser you saw senior? If not- I'd wait till the manager/more hair dressers are in the shop for additional advice.

SM4713 · 28/08/2023 14:05

I meant to say- take photos of what he has done, along with the look you were going for.

Not everywhere in UK has a bank holiday today!

Bank holidays are not always UK wide...

Orangeveryorange · 28/08/2023 16:01

yes, no bank holiday here today!

He didn’t prelighten it, but it was already quite pale blonde from previous colour and my natural hair colour. It’s an all over colour. Previously I’ve had highlights which has looked much more natural.
I don’t know whether he’ll try and strip the colour out, or make it darker?

OP posts:
JonjoMonjo21 · 28/08/2023 16:44

He will have to darken it I imagine. It’s obviously grabbed onto your light hair. He should have put some base colour in along with the tone to dull it down. Do I know what base number it is? Or your natural base colour?

TD7 · 28/08/2023 16:47

No way would I have left before it was put right hell no

JonjoMonjo21 · 28/08/2023 17:22

@TD7 not many hairdressers would let a client leave like that… very unprofessional. Totally agree. I would of waited even if someone else fixed it

I didn’t have a choice, because I had to collect my daughter from nursery 20 minutes later. Otherwise I would have stayed put! He knew it wasn’t right though, and was making arrangements for me to come back.

I’m back again now and he’s put a colour reducer of citric acid and Vit C (?) on it. Fingers crossed.

JonjoMonjo21 · 28/08/2023 17:41

The colour reduced will take colour out of the hair, you are still going to see the orange. He needs to put some base in to reduce the brightness and put another colour in there to counteract. The colour reducer will also ruin your hair if there has been bleach highlights already

JonjoMonjo21 · 28/08/2023 17:42

I don’t know what base u are but I’m thinking a 9/10 if u had highlights he needs to be putting an 8 through it to get this out.

Justleaveitblankthen · 28/08/2023 17:45

Someone mentioned Head & Shoulders to strip out colour (if he can't sort it out) I found (to my disappointment) that Vosene does the exact same. Strips out all fresh colour & leaves you with your original roots. You may need a few goes.
Good luckBrew

It’s helped a bit. Looks more like a human hair colour now. He’s going to make it a bit darker/browner now…

Awww hope it gets sorted xx

Mmhmmn · 28/08/2023 19:20

I would be insisting that a senior person fixes it instead. FFS what a feckless dick.

Mmhmmn · 28/08/2023 19:23

And now you have to have brown hair instead of strawberry blonde? What we he doing doing an all-over colour instead of highlights? Jesus H. You need to get a refund OP. Not got anything like what you wanted.

Loobrushahoy · 28/08/2023 19:34

I'm currently living with very orange hair. Dark hair dye over bronde. And it turned into a very orange hue with thick porous black bits in between. And very ashy blonde on the highlighty bits that didn't take the colour.

Hairdresser says its now so damaged she'll have to cut it off. Its my hair and its only jaw length - no way am I getting a pixie cut because of her mistake!

Lots of blue shampoo (that doesn't really work) and hats. I've booked elsewhere.

All this time she was going on about how blondes were more attractive than brunettes and she fecks up my hair.

Hairdressers need to be better educated. Too many hair fuck ups going on in this country. Its too common.

xyz111 · 28/08/2023 19:34

Did you get your money back as well Op?

Loobrushahoy · 28/08/2023 19:36

Malibu does a colour removing sachet. It's really really good! Doesn't remove it all but it does a good job. Brad Mondo recommends them too.

They're little sachets. I got mine from Amazon x
