I’m due to go on holiday tomorrow. Just reading that the ATC system in the uk is offline and it’s causing major disruption! Fingers crossed it’s sorted soon

anyone else impacted?

Well yes. Been at Heathrow since 10am. Got told to go to gate at 11.45am. We were supposed to take off at 12.25.

Currently we are sat at the gate with the door open and the pilots are letting all the kids up to see the cockpit because they've told us they have absolutely no idea if and when we will be alllowed to take off.

Not me, but sister is waiting to get a flight to IoM and has been told a 6hr delay.Stuck at airport with her two little girls.

On flight radar you can see bigger flights landing

The odd one taking off

This is cyber warfare for you.

Sorry you are the victim of this.

We’re due to fly to Dublin first thing tomorrow, we’re only going until Thursday night so if this carries on and we’re delayed too long it’ll hardly feel worth going.

huggiess · 28/08/2023 13:58

Just seen this. We're flying to Alicante at 6am tomorrow, well meant to be!! I could cry atm been so looking forward to this

stuckonagroundedplane · 28/08/2023 13:58

The first office says:

  1. it's nationwide and not limited to certain airports or certain airlines
  2. we are in a queue to get clearance to fly as we have all souls on board etc but he crashed system means that this is now having to be done manually with paper and pens and is therefore taking ages.
  3. he has no idea if and when we will get clearance to fly

So although flights are coming in, precious few are taking off. On flight radar at the moment there are no departures at LHR and LGW.

LHR terminal 5 was busy. Not jam packed but busy. I suspect in an hour it'll be jam packed due to no flights taking off but more and more people arriving and being processed through security as if they are.

The children have started to wail on our grounded flight.

Flights ARE leaving though

FloydPepper · 28/08/2023 14:01

We’re flying from LHR T5

understand planes are landing (which they have to) but not much leaving. Hope everyone stuck gets moving. I’m still at home so whilst worrying, at least I’m not sitting in a plane going nowhere!

Good news. Guess the manual
processes mean it’s a fraction of the normal levels though

My flight to London city got cancelled yesterday and managed to get into Heathrow this morning. So glad I didn't take a later flight!

There's also a thread about this in the 30 days topic

There are a few flights moving - but normally on a busy day there would be take-off and landings every few minutes. But the spacing is much longer than that. Priority seems to be getting inbound flights (especially long haul ones which have rather less fuel for prolonged holding patterns/long diversions) down safely.

Beeb reporting from a passenger stuck on the ground in Hungary that they've been told to expect 8-12 hour delay. But I guess no-one really knows how long it will take to find and fix the fault.

No word yet on how it could have happened

ohtowinthelottery · 28/08/2023 14:06

Friend stuck in a plane on the tarmac in Turkey and no idea if or when they'll be taking off.

EversoDetermined · 28/08/2023 14:06

We landed at Gatwick from Italy an hour ago, sounds as though we were very lucky, we were delayed an hour or so taking off but no reason given.

Thosesummernights · 28/08/2023 14:16

Stuck on tarmac in Corfu but just been told we’re taking off back to Brum!

We are pushing back after three hour delay
