Something to do with a 15 year old boy today

Any ideas. DS suggested we do "something" together today as I'm off. But neither of us have any good ideas. He's seen Oppenheimer and we've been clothes shopping and for lunch recently. I suggested driving range he wasn't keen!

I should have planned something!!

Bowling
Beach
Swimming
Local tourist attractions
Theme park

eyeoresancerre · 28/08/2023 09:14

An escape room is always fun but pricey.

Hellocatshome · 28/08/2023 09:14

Axe throwing

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 28/08/2023 09:15

County/country fair?

There's loads on around us this weekend.

MassiveOvaryaction · 28/08/2023 09:17

Bowling
Cinema
Go Ape
National Trust/English Heritage place?

Woahtherehoney · 28/08/2023 09:19

Have a look at local Facebook groups to see if there’s any town fairs/fetes/country shows etc on - there’s usually loads on a bank holiday, especially the august one.

Ds15 and I went on a bus tour of a local city last month. We really enjoyed it. Got off at a couple of random places we'd never visited before, just sat on the top of the bus and chatted and watched the world go by.
We live in a small place though so we find any cities exciting.

AdaColeman · 28/08/2023 09:24

Swimming and a picnic.
Visit a nearby historic building, have lunch or tea there.
Do a nature trail type walk or visit a beach.
Have a cooking session together.

LadyHag · 28/08/2023 09:25

Cheesy day at the coast, amusements, beach, fish and chips, rides, stroll about

MarshyMcMarshFace · 28/08/2023 09:29

Ice skating
Climbing Wall
Walk and picnic
Hire a rowing boat on nearest lake / rivet
Get a train somewhere
Safari park

Depends what is reasonably local

Lindy2 · 28/08/2023 09:35

I'm probably going to take my teens for a stand up paddle board session later today.

hopeishere · 28/08/2023 09:39

I think I would need to have planned a bit better for some of these. Trip to the coast would take all day!

You have a very can't do attitude! What about all the suggestions that are possible? You didn't give any idea if where you live so people have been varied in their suggestions.

whatt2do · 28/08/2023 09:43

Where aboits are you? That will make a big difference

cakeorwine · 28/08/2023 09:51

Go somewhere nice for a walk and have a chat about things.....with some lunch on the way.

(assuming he can take his earphones out for a second, looking at you DS)

hopeishere · 28/08/2023 09:54

You're right I don't have a can do attitude at the minute. Bank holidays are always weird in our house - DH is retired but before that he worked for an American company so they could take the BH or bank it as leave and he generally did the second. I have previously realised I hate them as they end up nothing days and once again I have failed to adequately plan for one.

AI rooms? Quite of those around now and great for that age group. And you too 😉

It's 10 am.

Is he up?

The day is young - get in the car and drive somewhere interesting.

hopeishere · 28/08/2023 10:00

We have done a million national trust trips and the like it is the absolute last thing he would want to do! There's some suggestions I'll see if he fancies.

He is 15 you could set off now and still do an all day trip or many of these won't take all day. Either get in the car and go somewhere or get online and book something. Or keep procrastinating but if my 15 year old son (well he's 16 now) wanted to spend the day with me nothing would stop me.

sashh · 28/08/2023 10:21

Pick the nearest city. Google what's on and go to what ever it is. If nothing is on make a list of things in that city and see if you can get to all of them in a day.

So my nearest big city is Birmingham so I could list:

The mailbox
Cadbury world
Think tank
one of the theatres
Jewlry Quarter

Have a competition to see who can buy the tacjiest souveneer.

ODFOx · 28/08/2023 10:24

It's not too late for a Maize maze f there's one within an hour's drive. It's an opportunity to chat as you work together to get round; not expensive, no need to prebook.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 28/08/2023 10:28

It's only 10.30am though - stuff is only just opening up.

There's tons you could do today and you have a teenager who's asking to spend time with you. Make the most of it, even if it is just a drive out somewhere and lunch in a nice pub.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2023 10:31

Go and see Barbie and go for a late lunch afterwards.

Namechangedforthis2244 · 28/08/2023 10:31

Drive to a small town you’ve never visited before and have a pootle round and a nice lunch?

Try something new to eat that you’ve never had before - eg if you’ve never eaten Malay food then find a Malaysian restaurant for lunch.

Bake something complicated together? Find a YouTube tutorial for home made pofitaroles or a cake tower or something?

Make cheese by hand? Go to a nice farm shop to buy fresh milk and then there are loads of recipes on YouTube

Go somewhere nostalgic which you both loved when he was little like a farm park or wildlife centre or something. Find a picture of him there as a toddler and try to recreate it now
