And can you estimate how wealthy they are?

OP posts:
DaisyWaldron · 28/08/2023 08:27

My dad has some very rich friends - generational wealth on both sides. I'd guess their wealth is in the hundreds of millions, but less than a billion. I might be overestimating though,, based on where they own homes.

DinnaeFashYersel · 28/08/2023 08:28

I know some wealthy people but I've never tried to work out their worth.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/08/2023 08:28

I’d probably say my in-laws. Wouldn’t a clue how much? Judging by the cars, houses, and holidays I’d say a lot?

lightinthebox · 28/08/2023 08:29

It’s amazing how so many MNetters know such wealthy people. Or are completely delusional/lying.

loislovesstewie · 28/08/2023 08:30

A neighbour who lives very frugally in a very modest house and is a multi millionaire. Can't say how I know, but I do, and ,to be clear, I am NOT friends with him to gain any advantage.

tescocreditcard · 28/08/2023 08:31

One of my clients. He's a multi-millionaire but not a billionaire.

PermanentTemporary · 28/08/2023 08:34

Some relatives of mine look pretty comfortably off but I couldn't estimate their wealth very well - if you added property in, maybe 3 or 4 million? But given that it's possible to spend a couple of million on a 3 bed flat in the wrong place in this country, it could be more. An uncle of mine has bought a house for each of his 4 children so that's where his money is.

Spottywombat · 28/08/2023 08:35

Used to work for people who appeared on the Times Rich List, two were great, one was a dick. One had an affair and left his wife, tho not the one who was a prat.

Money doesn't equal happiness and a smooth life.

Azaeleasinbloom · 28/08/2023 08:36

Local billionaire. Self made. Famous locally and in his industry. Used to work in his business. Major employer locally and around the world. Very hard worker and lovely wife, who also worked hard. They do a lot for charity / communities.

They have a beautiful house, but are pretty relaxed if you see them out and about.

Iliketulips · 28/08/2023 08:38

My friend is married to a millionaire. His DM passed away recently and her estate is worth about 12 million, but a lot of that'll go in taxes.

He seems lovely, has spent a lot on getting her children into the country and eventually adopting. Both very down to earth, they don't need to work as their money is working from them, so will just do a job because they fancy it for a couple of years, regardless of pay. In fact, I met her through work.

HamishTheCamel · 28/08/2023 08:39

A close friend sold his business for over £100m, but I'm not sure how much he would have actually got himself as I guess it was split with other investors etc. He's not famous.

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/08/2023 08:40

Owner of the company I work for. Worth approx 350 million.

DustyLee123 · 28/08/2023 08:40

My dad. He reckons he’s a millionaire if he added everything up.

StoatofDisarray · 28/08/2023 08:52

He's a quant and sort of.

topnoddy · 28/08/2023 08:54

What is the point of this post?

MissingMoominMamma · 28/08/2023 09:00

Local landowner who I have business dealings with. No idea because most of his wealth is in assets.

TheDuchessOfMN · 28/08/2023 09:00

A friend of DH’s. Multimillionaire. We had absolutely no idea until we heard that he was the person who had bought a property that was for sale for millions. I thought it was a joke or a mistake.
Obviously we knew he wasn’t on the breadline, but you’d never know he is wealthy.

Elon Must

Elon Must what?

mondaytosunday · 28/08/2023 10:21

Well they are deceased now but they were definitely the richest in terms of assets, if not earnings. Their house sold for over £7m when their kids sold it, and they had a house in the country and abroad. He was a commercial airline pilot and she was an artist, both had some inherited money. Not famous but connected to (she had a famous last name and distant Royal family connections, he was from wealthy landowners abroad). Lovely, generous people.

TGGreen · 28/08/2023 10:30

No super yacht types, but several multimillionaires and one household name that I've known since childhood. People just don't discuss these things.
We're solidly middle class. DS is marrying the daughter of one of those mentioned above shortly. It brings advantages and disadvantages.

KohlaParasaurus · 28/08/2023 10:48

It's either my aunt and uncle, who did extremely well out of farming subsidies and hard work, or my former colleague, who took advantage of all the entrepreneurial opportunities available to doctors and also invested heavily in property. In neither case are we talking billions, inheritances, yachts and jets, and the signs are that in both cases the next generation of their families will make the wealth melt away.

Kendodd · 28/08/2023 10:51

Ironic that this thread appeared just above one about UC entitlement.

beguilingeyes · 28/08/2023 11:00

I know a lot of musicians. Including a couple in some very famous bands, but the music business isn't as lucrative as it was so I've no idea what they're worth. Bloody nice house though.
