Anyone else just bloody love Agatha Christie books?

I've read them all (bar Poirot's last case) over the years and every time I can't think what to read I go back and read one of them again. Love the descriptions of the characters, the settings, the clothes, all of it!

First one I read in my teens was The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd and I still think it's one of the best whodunnits I've read.

Anyone else have a favourite AC book?

Love them. My favourite is Hickory Dickory Dock. I also like 4.50 from Paddington. They are my go to cosy read.

tuvamoodyson · 27/08/2023 20:13

I’m reading The Murder of Roger Ackroyd just now! I’m a huge fan of Agatha Christie…I love the time period of the early ones, the maids/butlers/country houses etc

NewLifeHappyLife · 27/08/2023 20:13

Love AC here. First one I ever read was also the Murder of Roger Aykroyd.

My older DS has just finished Death on the Nile. It's his first 'adult book' and he has been rushing in every morning saying things like ; 'I really really dislike Linnet!" ' and then ' i don;t think much of Simon!!'.

I was just waiting for the murder and then the reveal.

It left him beside himself with horrified delight.

(He's 12)

Today he went and begged for an advance on his pocket money so he could get 'Murder on the Orient Express'.

And Op- you will enjoy Poirot's last case. It has delicious details. :)

Bloatstoat · 27/08/2023 20:15

Yes, they are my absolute comfort read, I also love the audio books.
Miss Marple are my favourites, but I enjoy them all, even Tommy and Tuppence and the weird Egyptian one.

Ivesaidenough · 27/08/2023 20:15

Oh I love them too! I spent all my pocket money on them when I was a child.

Lilyhatesjaz · 27/08/2023 20:17

I love them all poirot and miss Marple.
And the one set in ancient Egypt, I can't remember the name of.

PercyPhelps · 27/08/2023 20:18

I’ve read them all apart from Poirot’s last case too. Those who have read it, is it very sad?

TennisWithDeborah · 27/08/2023 20:19

Murder of RA is a brilliant whodunnit. I also like the Christmas one.

Oh no I can't because then I have to accept that there are no more! 😂

I do love Miss Marple too, she's wonderful.

My DD(17) has just started reading them after years of saying they're 'not my thing' and now she's hooked. Can't get a word out of her and she's actually taken her ear buds out which is some kind of miracle.

I love them too. I got into them when I lived in Russia and they were the cheapest books I could get in English. I brought them all home with me which definitely contributed to my overweight suitcase! They're very feel good. I also like the poirot ones by Sophie Hannah

NewLifeHappyLife · 27/08/2023 20:20

I cried at PLC. But it;s perfect. It rounds out his entire life.

You simply, have to. Smile

Puffypuffin · 27/08/2023 20:21

I have all my mum's old copies. I found them in the house when she died and I remember the covers so well from when I was a kid. They are doubly nostalgic for me when I pick up one of her old books, because I can just picture it sitting in her knitting bag.

I absolutely love them too!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/08/2023 20:23

I love them and have read most of them several times. Favourites: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None. I also have a very soft spot for Cat Among the Pigeons because it's girls' boarding school story meets whodunnit. (See also, almost: Josephine Tey's Miss Pym Disposes, which is brilliant.)

Death Comes as the End is the weird Egyptian one, I think.

Puffypuffin · 27/08/2023 20:24

Oh I'm getting all nostalgic and emotional now thinking of my mum reading these, she absolutely loved them.

Absolutely love them! My favourite is the man in the brown suit as it reminds me of my gran (I've never seen the film of it though). I got my love of all things murder & mystery from her.

That's lovely, what nice things to have.
I adore AC, such a terribly clever woman.
The stories are so entertaining and dark.
I like A Murder is Announced and Death on the Nile is my most favourite film ever, closely followed by Evil Under the Sun.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 27/08/2023 20:27

Me. I've read almost all of them and I'm currently going through them on Audible. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Endless Night are my favourites listens.

Puffypuffin · 27/08/2023 20:27

A Murder is Announced is another favourite of mine too. I don't think I read any that I didn't like.

I’m a big fan! There were many in my school library in the 90s. My favourites are Mrs McGinty’s Dead and A Murder is Announced.

Ds13 has just finished the Murder Most Unladylike series by Robin Stevens. I’ve got him the Miss Marple books boxset for Xmas and I can’t wait to see his reaction (he loves a detective novel) do you have any more (age appropriate) recommendations!

NoWeaponsOnTheTable · 27/08/2023 20:31

They are all brilliant! I don't think I ever read any that i was disappointed with.
