Salad in a jar? Just a fancy gimmick

use a lunchbox.

Brefugee · 27/08/2023 20:25

just use tupperware. The jars are heavy and you have to layer it properly so you can dump it out onto a plate. It looks lovely but it's pointless

OnionBhajis · 27/08/2023 20:26

What's the point of the jar?

Just make it in a tupperware/bowl

ShutTheDoorBabe · 27/08/2023 20:26

I don't understand why anyone would want to make the task of making a pack-up even more annoying than it already is. Surely it's easier and quicker to eat out of a lunch box, which is then of course easier to wash and refill than a jar?

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 27/08/2023 20:39

I’d imagine the point of the jar is to keep the dressing at the bottom, allowing the salad to stay fresher, as a dressed salad does not last long. And then shake the jar to dress the salad?

I could use a lunchbox and make a separate dressing and keep it in a little tub to the side ready to dress, as an alternative.

Boring instagram fodder. Just put it in a Tupperware.

Blimey, helpful responses here, thanks😆

Thank you @PeachPieStreet I'll take a look.

Doesn’t it all go soggy if you make a load in one go? (Even if the dressing is at the bottom?).

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/08/2023 20:56

I could never eat a salad more than a few hours old so ... no.

You did ask😂

to me its like eating off a slate tile instead of a plate, fancy and useless.

Chelsea26 · 27/08/2023 21:18

It’s not fancy and useless. It does enable you to make 5 salads in one go and for them to last the week. Yes jars are heavy and cumbersome it does stay fresh for 5 days which it wouldn’t in Tupperware.

@Bemyclementine I do this sometimes, I found a coronation chicken/chicken tikka base worked well. Layer vegetables up in ‘firmness’ order, tip it out into a bowl and eat!

Kirova · 27/08/2023 21:27

It's not what I'd think of as salad, to be honest - it's all beans and rice and sweetcorn in the photos I have seen. It wouldn't really work to do it with proper salady stuff!

I make my salads for the week in Tupperware and they're fine. Dressing in a separate small container, which goes in the box with the salad.

The glass jars are Instagram friendly and "sustainable" - if you already have Tupperware the best thing is to use it

EversoDetermined · 28/08/2023 06:17

I do three days worth at a time in tupperware, usually with either chicken, tuna or egg mayo at the bottom and salad on top, they stay fresh just fine in the fridge and can be eaten straight from the box.

Bemyclementine · 28/08/2023 09:31

I was more looking for ideas for mire than just a bog standard salad with topping. I'm so bored with packed lunches.

I know I can do it in a tupperware!

I follow Healthy Girl Kitchen on FB, she has lots of ideas for ingredients and dressings.

She's vegan but you could always chuck in some chicken.

Bbq1 · 28/08/2023 09:36

Turns my stomach the thought of salad in a jar. Just looks so unappetising and strange. Ugh, no.

Bemyclementine · 28/08/2023 09:42

@CornedBeef451 thank you, I'll have a look. I'm not vegan but happy to try new things, that was really what i was hoping for. Something healthy and different.

Ah OK. That wasn't clear from the OP
