Had our 4D scan, MIL asked if we thought baby will be ugly

Had our 4D scan for first baby earlier this week. MIL came round today and said “do you think she’s going to be an ugly baby then” while looking at the photos.

Who says that?!

I thought I was used to MIL and her unnecessary/hurtful comments about everything but this just feels a new level.

Just wanted a rant really...

I'd have replied "Oh, I shouldn't think so - thankfully the genes are very strong on my side of the family".

I also have a very rude MIL and I have no truck with it these days.

Some people just don't think!.
The scans are, imo very ugly. That'll be what she is seeing.
My dh was convinced our first dc was going to have a ginormous nose after seeing the scan.

Only you know her and her history of what she says.

But all babies on 4D scans look ugly. In fact most look ugly after being squished out through a narrow chamber too. That's if you are relaxed about the use of its word in the context meant.

So either she's generally a cow or she just clumsily put this into a sentence that sounded like she was insulting your baby.

My friend just had her 4D scan. I asked if I could have a look. She handed it to me saying "it looks like my child can ugly cry before it's even been born" 🤣🤣

See I would find that quite funny and say something along the line of well Brian blessed was an ugly baby and look how well he's done in life

Some babies are ugly and some people don't shy away from saying so! My eldest was a stunning child, after the first week. My second was, shall we say, not very handsome!

They are both beautiful inside and pitas young men. But DS2 knows he was an ugly baby!

All babies look ugly on those scans. It was a bit blunt for her to just come out with it but I think that's all you can really accuse her of.

To be honest I wouldn't say anything like that . When child is born try to make it a fresh start on the relationship with the in laws , you never know the baby could improve things with the in laws 🤞🏻 .

Google “4D scan before and after” - the actual babies are universally cute and adorable, the 4D scans are… variable.

But yeah, even if she thinks it, she should keep her trap shut.

My mum told me that she was so worried and thought our baby would be deformed based on 4d scan AFTER she had met him and seen that he was beautiful. Best to keep these things to yourself!
