Was this a scam

I was pulling off the motorway onto a slip road. I noticed that the car in front at the traffic lights had a dent in the back (as if someone had driven into the back of them) so was paying a bit more attention than usual.

The lights went green and the car pulled forward then stopped (no brake lights) then pulled forward again, then stopped.

I indicated and pulled out to go around them, as I did the car swerved towards me, then sped off (40+ mph).

I wondered if this may be scam that gets others to pay for damage to a car that suddenly stops in front of them? Either way it seemed a bit weird.

Could be a cash for crash scammer, they usually do it for the personal injury clajm not to pay for getting their car fixed. Also could just be an idiot there are more and more people driving that seek to be completely incapable of it.

Yeah I would say they are brake testing in the hope that you crash into the back of them.
It’s happened to me before but I thankfully had a dash cam that caught it all. I kept my distance from them but they eventually swerved into me as I tried to move around them. Someone else also stopped as they had witnessed it all.
