What happens when one of you goes away overnight?

We have travel toothbrushes, smaller, no charger required. Esp. DD who is an Explorer Scout can't take the electric one.

The amount we're in and out it would cost a fortune in disposable bamboo toothbrushes. I have a pack in for guests to use, they were £20 for 6.

Bloody hell! I bought a pack of bamboo toothbrushes from B&M a few weeks ago for going on holiday. They were 3 for a pound.

B&M do them! I got mine from the local eco/refill shop 🙄

I replaced an oral b 2000 pro or with an io4 and the heads are £30 for two.

I'd either buy a an oral 6000 or a genius x as the heads are much cheaper and its not much better than my old brush

I wouldn't buy an io4 or io whatever again as the heads are too dear.

I wouldn't buy a vitality either

We always have a selection of disposable brushes for holidays or days away. We never take the electric one away with us. They get thrown away when finished with. We try to buy eco versions where possible.

How environmentally friendly of you.

We always have just one and obviously different heads per person. We have a little stand for the heads and the coloured rings tell each one who's who. I never thought of buying one per person, that would be the same as buying a hairdryer per person or similar.

This.

Isn't that the whole point of electric toothbrushes? People can't be bothered with faff of putting their own brush on the handle? Really?
Jesus fucking christ...

One toothbrush, four toothbrush heads. We’ve all somehow survived so far.

beeonmybonnett · 27/08/2023 23:58

OP, I hope you don’t mean one toothbrush for all??

I use the oral b brushes

TheWayoftheLeaf · 27/08/2023 23:59

Gross. Mine gets covered in dried toothpaste and I have to clean it a lot. Wouldn't want to share one.

Oblomov23 · 28/08/2023 07:39

Why do you need to throw travel toothbrushes away after a holiday?

Why do you need to throw travel toothbrushes away after a holiday?

Depends when your next holiday is I guess. If it’s very soon, makes sense to keep it and reuse but I’m not pulling a used year old manual toothbrush out of the back if the cupboard for the sake of saving £1!

Why do you need to throw travel toothbrushes away after a holiday?

It depends how long between the holidays/time away and how long we are away.
If it's not that long then they come back, get a good clean and have brush covers put on them.
If it's going to be longer then they get thrown away.

We don't buy specific travel ones, just normal toothbrushes - and do try to get more eco friendly ones where possible.

When doing shorter breaks we often travel light so hand luggage space is very limited. The charging units can take up a fair bit of space in a backpack.

We wash ours after every single use. A quick wipe down under warm water. It's never put away with toothpaste residue left on it so never gets the chance to have dried toothpaste on. Dh and I have done the same for over 20 years and never had this issue.

No we're not struggling to make ends met lol. But with model I'm looking at, I'm going to end up spending quite a few hundred pounds for 4 x.

If you aren't struggling then get everyone their own toothbrush. The handles and base of the brush bit get manky and I wouldn't want to share with anyone, it's seriously gross. Some things we should maintain boundaries over even in families and the device we use to clean old food, plaque and bacteria out of our mouths with should be one.

BertieBotts · 28/08/2023 12:09

We share but DS1 (teenage) has his own one, originally because it took different heads and then we changed ours so they are all the same now.

We take the head off after every use and leave it on the charger with no head on.

If one of us goes away without the other we just take a disposable toothbrush and then it gets made into a cleaning toothbrush when we get back, as this doesn't happen very often and nobody wants to keep a used toothbrush for years!

BertieBotts · 28/08/2023 12:10

I don't think it's gross, but I do accidentally use DH's head sometimes and then we all go AAAAAAARGH and change them all Grin

Qilin · 28/08/2023 12:41

I can only assume there a lot of people who don't clean their toothbrush bases after every use.
We've had various electric toothbrushes for over 20 years now, always one base shared between me and dh.

The handle and base NEVER get left unclean. They are always wiped down and washed. I've never got to the handle and found it with dried toothpaste on, or it be grubby/dirty, etc.

I guess with a young child you might, but it's just do it for them until only.

Or consider getting one unit for me/dh and a second for children - dd had her own as she used a different bathroom to me and dh.

BeyondMyWits · 28/08/2023 14:05

Haha... we also have travel toothbrushes convert to cleaning ones when we get back.

If either of us uses the wrong toothbrush head it is no big deal to be honest. I have a particular ability to shrug off mouth ulcers... as did DH for a while when he used mine by mistake a couple of times. Normally has them for weeks.

stayathomer · 17/04/2024 15:26

I can kind of understand people sharing an electric toothbrush cost wise- we had to buy them over months ie one person gets one one month another another month etc
