Oral B 100% it's the oscillating tooth-bristles that are best in removing plaque. Don't need to purchase an expensive one as they are usually just silly gadgets. However if you are prone to applying too much pressure when you brush it's a good thing to get one which flashes red when you are pressing too hard ( no one wants toothbrush abrasion!!)

We share a handle between the 2 of us. When I've done I remove the head, rinse it, and put it in "my pot". I then rinse the handle, dry it and put it on the windowsill. I share more than just a bit of spit with my husband, not gonna get all "ewww" about a toothbrush handle.

Thanks for all your replies, I love the variety in replies!!

At the moment I share one with dh, and the kids each have a £20 one each. Ds11 is about to get braces and dh & I need a new one as ours is constantly on charge! I was thinking about buying one really good one instead of several cheaper ones.

Oh and I'm really not squeamish about sharing or cleaning up after the kids.

But I am now thinking about getting two, but to ensure one is always charged.

@Definitelynotme2022 Yeah, the problem with only having one, particularly when theres 4 of you, is that if it dies when the 1st one is brushing, then the other 3 are SOL.

Also does no one ever go away? Cause that would mean not having a toothbrush, for instance, for a sleepover! I cant use normal toothbrushes anymore, after getting used to my electric.

And the REALLY good ones? Dont last any longer than the 25 quid ones!

AndTheSurveySays · 27/08/2023 17:55

I take mine to bits each time I charge it a give it a little scrub between all the parts , can’t imagine you doing that each time you swapped heads

Unless you have some type of mouth issue that causes you to over produce saliva, how are you making the toothbrush so messy that you need to take it apart to scrub each time?

dementedpixie · 27/08/2023 17:58

@Definitelynotme2022 my dd used her existing electric toothbrush with her braces. I got her some manual interdental brushes for cleaning around the wires too.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2023 17:59

They're usually on offer around Christmas so I'd keep your existing ones until then

Even with different heads it's icky to use the same Toothbrush. Yuck.

Why?

Dh and I have one toothbrush base and swap the heads to use. It has a special toothbrush head holder when not being used.
We both rinse the head and handle/base after use, so it's clean. No toothpaste residue, etc on it.

With the price of many of these toothbrushes we aren't going to buy two when there is no need!

We have one each, we have our own toothpastes and the hairdryer users in the family have one each too.
If you share what happens if one of you stays away?

We always have a selection of disposable brushes for holidays or days away. We never take the electric one away with us. They get thrown away when finished with. We try to buy eco versions where possible.

Why? I mean, it obviously gets rinsed between users, so what's the issue? You all touch the same surfaces elsewhere in the house, and share the same air.

DH and I share a brush with a separate head each.

Qilin · 27/08/2023 18:10

You can buy special toothbrush heads suitable for use with braces.

Unless you’re really struggling to make ends meet, this seems very strange. I’d rather have a manual one tbh.

Toothbrushes are often on offer.

No we're not struggling to make ends met lol. But with model I'm looking at, I'm going to end up spending quite a few hundred pounds for 4 x.

The thought of sharing toothbrush handles makes me feel genuinely sick.

These Ordo toothbrushes are so good. My dentist sells them too and they've reduced my hygienist visits 😊 £50! We have the dark grey and white ones

blahblahhhh · 27/08/2023 18:31

Dd2 won't even stand her electric toothbrush next to mine, DH or DD1. She keeps it in her bedroom. I can't imagine sharing one.

GrandHighPoohbah · 27/08/2023 18:34

I don't think I could be bothered with all the planning every time someone went away for the night if we shared.

The amount we're in and out it would cost a fortune in disposable bamboo toothbrushes. I have a pack in for guests to use, they were £20 for 6.

reluctantbrit · 27/08/2023 15:59

We always have just one and obviously different heads per person. We have a little stand for the heads and the coloured rings tell each one who's who. I never thought of buying one per person, that would be the same as buying a hairdryer per person or similar.

What happens when one of you goes away overnight?

FixTheBone · 27/08/2023 19:19

Get one each. They're like razors, or ink jet printers, frequent offers where the handle is basically free, all the profit is in the heads.

Chantholtmouse · 27/08/2023 19:33

Flipping gross. The mouth has so many germs in it and people do dribble toothpaste (and mouth germs) down the brush. I know you'll swap heads but it's still absolutely gross 🤢

Even more so when oral sex is involved 😱😭

Bloody hell! I bought a pack of bamboo toothbrushes from B&M a few weeks ago for going on holiday. They were 3 for a pound.

Tessisme · 27/08/2023 19:57

If you had ever had to chisel the dried in toothpaste off DS1's electric toothbrush, you would NOT want to share the handle🤢
